Like my lipstick, the color of dawn…

As I did last year I’m going to share some of my favourite beauty products from 2016. This is a little late going up, being that it’s now the end of January, but better late than never! This year I didn’t splurge too much, I stuck to a lot of what I know, so with that being said, I took the time to use up samples and look for less expensive alternatives to established faves.

1. Fresh Sugar Face Polish – I got this as part of the spa discovery trio, and I only recently opened this scrub. I found a refreshing scent, a gentle exfoliate, and a skin master. My skin looks great after using this scrub, not that I was surprised!

2. Burt’s Bees BB Cream – When I read that Burt’s Bees was releasing a BB I knew I had to try it! And I found myself loving it. All the essentials are there, the coverage is buildable, the formula light, the colour match great! And the best part is the price, I have spent a lot of money in the search of a great BB, and it can be found at your local Target!

3. Bobbi Brown Eye Cream – This is my first Bobbi Brown product experience and it’s not going to be the last, as I am with most eye creams, I don’t expect much going in, but this is right up there with L’Occatain Immortel Eye Balm.

4. Josie Maran Argan Oil – If there is one thing I love, it’s a face oil, I got this as a point perk from Sephora and in between switching up my skin care I decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised, it’s a lightweight, well aborsbing oil, there’s no scent which is also nice, and it’s a little less expensive in comparison to my Fresh Seaberry oil, and there is also a jumbo size.

5. John Freida Sea Waves – very similar to the original from the late 90s early 00s. It enhances my natural waves and give great texture, all for a whole hell of a lot less than Bumble and Bumble Sea Salt Spray. And a lot more nostalgic for me too.

6. NARS Cruella – I’ve always been a red lippie sort of gal, but I, like many struggled to find the right shade and the confidence to pull it off. I have always been team NARS and this is no different. It’s rich deep red with a huge colour pay off, I rarely find myself reapplying. And I love this shade for Autumn/Winter, when deeper matte reds are in order.

7. Earthmama Angelbaby Nipple butter – about 6 months into my pregnancy there was a lot going on with my body, one strange thing that happened was my nipples were so dry that they were flaking.  Regular body lotion and cocoa butter did not work, this was the only product that did the trick. Also great for use on your elbows to smooth them.

8. Bumble and Bumble Invisible Hairdresser’s Oil Shampoo and Conditioner – I got both as a point perk and finally decided to try them, that was a mistake, because I love them and they are expensive! They both smell great, the shampoo makes my hair feel really clean, while the conditioner leaves my hair really soft and manageable. I prefer to use them before a blowout.

9. Water – Legit just drinking a shit ton of water. During this year alcohol and coffee were kept to ridiculously low minimums, and rightfully so, and water stepped up in a big way! Once I calculated how many ounces of water I drank and is was triple digits. It was summer and really hot.

10. Fresh lip balm – I got this as part of a holiday set I got at last year’s VIB Rouge sale and I freaking love it! I didn’t want to because of its steep for what it is price tag and because I have a million EOS lip balm eggs, but I will repurchase in the future. I love the lemony scent, you don’t find that with many Fresh products.

I’m looking forward to work through a lot of my beauty stash again this year and focus on skin care.  I’m looking forward to a healthier 2017, and little by little I will share my skin care and wellness progress.  And on that note it’s time to end!

So I pacify problems with kisses and cuddles…

Now that I am a full blown Mommy, I thought I might hop back on the posting bandwagon with some of the baby gear J and I love for our little girl!  Being first time parents can be really scary, overwhelming and just plain hard.  All of these products have made our lives a teensy bit easier.

  1. Halo SleepSack Swaddle – This thing is a lifesaver!  Not only does it keep Baby Girl nice and warm, but it also keeps her wrapped up tight, and I don’t have to constantly reswaddle her! As she likes to kick those little legs.  We’ve already had to put her in a 3-6 month size, because she is growing like a weed!  I love how warm it is for her, and it’s much safer than a regular blanket.
  2. Sleep and Play body suits – Since Baby Girl was born in November and it has been pretty cold since then, the terry cloth and fleece body suits have been amazing!  She stays warm, they are easy to launder and they are not too expensive, usually they go on sale for $5.00 or under.
  3. Boppy Pillow – I love this pillow, it is so versatile.  I bought it mainly for nursing, which was such a challenge at first.  But now that she’s bigger we sit her up in it and use it for tummy time.  I would recommend everyone have one, or maybe two!
  4. Kiki the Elephant – Baby Girl is on the cusp of teething, so this will come in handy very soon.  It’s less expensive than Sofie the Giraffe, and it’s name is Kiki!
  5. Mamaroo – Baby Girl had bouts of colic and this bouncy seat was just the ticket.  This thing was not cheap, but worth every penny!  It has five motion options, four sound options, mp3 jack, blue tooth enabled, a soft plushie seat, it’s only about twenty pounds so it’s easily portable and it doesn’t take up nearly as much space as other bouncy seats or swings.  Baby Girl likes car ride and tree swing the best, and if she’s really fussy putting it on the highest speed really helps.

Adjusting to parenthood has not been an easy thing, and I am sure all new parents would agree, but at some point it just gets a lot easier all of the sudden.  I hope this post helps anyone out there who may be struggling, I was there, we all were and it does get better!  This is coming from the girl who thought she would be really terrible at all this mom stuff. And on that note it’s time to end!

Happy New Year

I’ve never been a big resolution person, I would rather focus my time and energy on things that I know I can achieve. So instead of resolutions that will inevitably get broken, I set goals for myself through out the year. Yes, there are the typical: loose a bit of weight, eat healthier, don’t drink as much alcohol, clean a bit more. But some that are unique to me and all that is Breakfast @ Kiki’s.
1. Post more – This was something I started off strong doing last year, then I found out I was pregnant and my free time was consumed with baby stuff and sleeping. I figured if I start slow I’ll get. back in the game in no time!

2. Being more frugal – some unfortunate circumstances arose for us last year and we are having to really scrimp and save. I’m not going to have J. Crew, Nordies, Sephora, and any other shopping sprees this year, I’m going to only buy what I need for myself and try and wait for serious sales.

3. Focusing on my writing – I have to be better at this, I think I only broke 30k on my novel, again pregnancy kicked my butt, and I just didn’t have the time or energy to work as hard as I intended.

4. Read more – I have so many books on my ever growing reading list and I need to make time to get through the books I have and have started, this I can do, also something I wanted to accomplish last year, but fell by the wayside.

5. Practice yoga – I have learned to love yoga, but finding the time have been challenging. I want to start with a couple easy routines a week and work up to more challenging stuff. I have about 20 pounds to loose, and a year to do it, but more importantly I want to be healthy and happy.

I’m also going to focus on family this year. Everything is so new and exciting when you have a child and holidays are especially brilliant. And I have a whole year of endless possibilities. And on that note it’s time to end! Happy New Year!

All for now,

All I can taste is champagne…

I am not a big resolution person, I never really have been.  I would rather focus my time and energy on things that I know I can achieve, so instead of resolutions that will inevitably get broken, I set goals for myself through out the year.  Yes, there are the typical: loose a bit of weight, eat healthier, don’t drink as much alcohol, clean a bit more.  But some that are unique to me and all that is Breakfast @ Kiki’s.

1. Post at least 15 times per month – I can, have, and will continue to do this.  On average if I can do 15 posts per month I am golden.  Over the past few months I have been hammering down my weekly features, scheduling posts to optimize my time, and learning a lot about what content I want to feature.  I am so looking forward to 2016, and all of the possibilities!

2. Saving more – I am pretty bad when it comes to buying things.  I am very into quality, and sometimes that means spending a lot.  But with everything that went on this year I need to tone it down in 2016.  I am finally pinning down my skincare and beauty routines, so I’m not as obsessed with trying new stuff.  I own a lot of great “forever wardrobe” pieces, and a lot of my shoes are still in great condition.

3. Focusing on my writing – I have a few story/movie ideas that I want to complete in 2016.  I know that saying and doing are two very different things, but I can finish at least one of my ideas in 366 days (It’s leap year!).

4. Read more – I have so many books on my ever growing reading list and I need to make time to get through the books I have and have started.

For 2016 I decided to not overwhelm myself.  I am just getting settled in my new position and I want to excel at my job.  And in addition I want to excel in my personal life, all while exploring my passions.  I am so excited for all that 2016 can and will be!  Happy New Year!  And on that note, it’s time to end!

There are never toys that’s scattered everywhere…

I have been away for what seems like forever. I’ve had good reason though. Going through the last few weeks of pregnancy were no walk in the park, and then giving birth and having a new tiny human have been no small task either.

I gave birth to a healthy happy baby girl a few weeks ago and my life has forever been changed. We are all doing well and trying to adjust to our new roles.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to share my birth experience and a little more about how I’m adjusting. So while everyone is planning for the holidays I’ll be catching up and trying to get back on the bandwagon.

I have been finding myself writing during and editing during feedings and it’s mostly super late at night so you’ll all have to bear with me.

But just so y’all know I’m still here, it’s just that life with a newborn has been very challenging, especially the sleeping bit!

Like any new Mom would I’m planning on incorporating more posts about Motherhood, it’s probably going to be frequent at first, since that’s all my life consists of right now. And on that note it’s time to end!

Cos you were so beautiful before today…

We have finally made it to October!  And that means Autumn is upon us, pumpkin spice everything has come out of the wood work, it’s a little cooler in the morning and evenings than the daytime.  Leaves are changing colour, the air is a bit brisk, it’s getting darker earlier, and I have about four weeks left in my pregnancy, give or take a bit.  Most women I’ve talked to have all said that their first born were a bit late, or like me I was almost two weeks late!

Over the next few weeks it will be crunch time to prepare for our little girl.  We have the nursery to finish, some big purchases to make and I need to prepare my hospital bag and birth plan.  I also have to wash all the adorable little baby clothes, inventory the gear we got from my shower, write and send all of the thank you notes as well.  And this week is my last bi-weekly/first weekly appointment.

Everything is going by so fast.  Aside from aching all over, and not sleeping well, I feel like all of my days are rolling into one another.  And that’s probably because I am still working.  I feel like I have hardly any time to myself and if I am able to accomplish anything it feels like the best day ever!

J and I are getting really ancy, I think for different reasons, I want to feel semi normal again, and I think he just wants to meet our little girl, I do too, I just also would like to be able to get back to feeling like a person, like myself again…  Even though I know that nothing will ever be the same.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

It’s so surreal, I can’t survive, If this is all that’s real…

The bulk of my pregnancy was throughout S/S16, so my pregnancy must haves may be different than those of you who go through A/W pregnancies.  But regardless I thought I might share a few things I couldn’t be with out!

  1. Maxi dresses – I never in a million years thought I would look good in a maxi dress (I’m only 5’3″), I thought it was a tall gal only type deal.  Boy was I wrong.  I now have three and I lived in them all summer.  My favourite has been this black one I found for like $20 from Burlington in the spring (similar, not maternity).  And since it is a black dress I totally got away with wearing it through the end of my pregnancy in September and October too!
  2. Flats – I have always been a high heels type of girl, but during my second trimester I started to develop shin splints.  So I stuck with flats and sneakers for the remainder of my pregnancy.  I lived in these Dr Scholl’s pointy toe flats, I kind of want a pair in every colour, they are that comfortable!
  3. Staying hydrated -We had a pretty hot and dry summer in my neck of the woods, yes, the heat finally broke here and there for a few days, and eventually we got much needed rain, but none the less it was still a doozy!  One day I calculated I had over 160 ounces of fluid in one day (it was a particularly humid day).  I started to keep a water bottle at my desk that I could refill throughout the day and I even kept a water bottle in my purse.
  4. Snacks – I was not one to snack throughout the day prior to becoming pregnant, but there were some days that I felt like a Hobbit and ate and ate and ate (breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, super…), so to combat my sometimes ravenous appetite I kept snacks in my purse, mainly whole almonds and chewy granola bars. And it was convenient to have small snacks on the go, especially on those day when I took lunch at three o’clock!
  5. Coco butter – I am usually super bad about using body lotion after a shower or before bed.  But I knew once I found out I was pregnant that I needed to make more of an effort to moisturize.  Coco butter is like the most amazing thing.  And it smells amazing.

I’ve also been wearing less make up, I will go days without wearing any, I have been staying away from my heat tools, and I’ve been focusing on skincare and well-being over fashion and trends.

My pregnancy has definitely been a learning experience especially since this is our first child, but I have learned so much about myself.  It’s been a very interesting journey.  And on that note it’s time to end!
