In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don’t ever shine…

It’s May (#Maythefourthbewithyou), J and I will be celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary, our little girl is six months old, LDR is dropping a record this month, and Summer unofficially starts.  I figured I should hop back and post as much as I can when I can, since I have totally gotten away from that with all that has been going on! And I’m starting back up again with my latest edition of Favourite Things, there have been so many changes in my life I had to really sit and think about what few things I’ve even been able to enjoy.

  1. Tony Moly sheet masks – WTF, why did I wait so long to try these masks? There is literally one for every skin concern and they aren’t too expensive (Ulta does BOGO half off, and Amazon has them cheap too).
  2. Nivea Creme – Where has this creme been my whole life?  Oh you know chilling at the drugstore.  A must for harsh Winter skin!  Not to mention there is a light fragrance, almost balmy texture and a huge tin is under $12.00.
  3. American Gods – This gem is on Starz, based on a book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, the first episode “The Bone Orchard” is the most hauntingly beautiful single episode I’ve ever seen.  It’s a new show that debuted this summer season, about Gods old and new, there are some heavy hitters like Kristen Chenoweth, Ian McShane, and Gillian Anderson. Oh and the soundtrack TDF, I mean In the Pines?
  4. Sundress season – I have been looking forward to wearing my sundresses since Winter 2015, and now that I am closer to my fighting weight I can’t wait.  I hopefully can add one or two more to the collection, like (here or here)
  5. Big barrel curls – Since going back to work in January I have been styling big barrel curls and I am loving the look, I plan to do a tutorial, just bear with me, while I get my life together and carve out some time to photograph it! I’m all about quick and easy ways to get ready in the morning considering most mornings I’m lucky if I eat breakfast and when I do it’s almost always in the nursery these days.

Lately my days have been filled with work and taking care of our little girl, which doesn’t leave a lot of time for me, or my blog for that matter. But now that she is getting older and sleeping better I’m hoping to get back to posting at least a couple times a week, until I can get back to where I was scheduling several weeks worth in advance. And on that note it’s time to end!

All for now,

Shine on me sunshine…

This month I celebrated my Mother’s birthday, St. Patrick’s day, Easter, and the start of Spring.  I have been waiting so long for the warmer weather to come, and I am so glad that it is finally here.  Here are some of my favourite things from March!

Lucifer – J and I have been watching Lucifer, it’s on Mondays at 9 pm eastern on Fox.  The series follows Lucifer Morningstar, yes, that Lucifer.  He is bored with life in Hell, and goes to where else?  Los Angeles, where he becomes a consultant for the LAPD and works with Chloe, detective with a colourful past.  It’s witty, sarcastic, and right up my alley, give it a go, you might like it!

Kale – This leafy green has long been hailed as a super food.  And it’s one that J and I have jumped on the band wagon.  We mainly use it for salads, but it can be used a multitude of ways.

Two Dots – I recently discovered this game when I was searching for something else to play when bored.  And since I installed this app on my phone I have been playing it multiple times a day!  For those of you who may have played Dots, Two Dots is a overhaul, and I personally like it better than the original.  Lives are regenerated every twenty minutes, levels have a goal that must be reach, both a number of moves and an objective, and there are so many levels.  You also can buy perks and more lives if you want to.  This game is highly addictive!

Cadbury Eggs – March brought us Easter this year, and that means it’s time for my favourite candy.  I need to have at least one or it’s not really Easter in my world.  If I could I would eat them all year, but that is not always possible.

Spring – Yay!  It’s finally back!  I have been looking forward to Spring pretty much since October.  Even though our Winter has been pretty mild in my neck of the woods, it’s still no comparison to Springtime weather that I’ve been looking forward too!

Now we are looking ahead to April!  And April showers bring May flowers.  We are also that much closer to Summer, and the mini vacation I have planned for May!  And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

From an era we hate to admit we embrace…

It’s already the end of April, and that is pretty hard to believe!  I’ve been sitting here thinking about some of my favourite things over the past month and I think I have it narrowed down.  It’s going to be a short list is month because I am trying to get through my newly-ish acquired makeup/skincare and I have been working feverishly on posts.  Without further delay, my April favourite things!

1. Polishing my nails – I have gotten back on the nail polish bandwagon in a big way over the past few months.  I mainly stick to the classics: red, navy, black, coral.  But I have been experimenting with fun shades of nude, green (emerald, mint, and what Husband calls Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle green {Revlon Posh from 2014}), rose gold, sky blue, bubble gum pink, smoke and the occasional matte top coat.  While my polish collection grows and my hand steadies I get more and more obsessed.  Being in a professional position where I use my hands on the regular I have on average of two manis a week, just to keep the chips at bay.  While I have mainly been on the drugstore polish only, I more recently started adding some higher quality brands to the collection and I must say the investment is worth it.  I also opened up my Butter Tops and Tails set and so far (one mani down) I am in love, the base coat is matte and “nail colour” if that makes sense.  The top coat is high shine and dries quickly. I am eager to use the minis up and get full size (yes all after one use).  I also opened up my Formula X Clix set, I started with the nude colour, I only needed two coats to cover well (almost unheard of in my world). The formula (hehe #iprefermypunsintended) is smooth, consistent and highly pigmented. I would repurchase full size polishes for sure.

2. Origins Activated Charcoal mask – I picked this up about a month ago in hopes that it would replace GlamGlow SuperMud and it did in a big way!  As I’ve mentioned before Origins is quickly becoming on of my favourite brands (behind Fresh, Nars and Shiseido).  I use this mask at least once a week and it does wonders for clearing my pores, it’s a must try and much cheaper than SuperMud.

3. Castle – This show is amazing!  Nathan Fillion (swoon) and Stana Katic play Castle and Beckett, respectively.  Beckett is a no nonsense Homicide cop for the NYPD and Castle is a mystery writer who tags along.  I love this show for so many reasons!  Not to mention the constant comedic lines coming from Fillion, the twisted plots of the murder mysteries, and the sarcasm that Katic throws his way.  The nerd in my loves the literature references, the Firefly references, and the general euphoria I get from the show.

4. Fresh Off the Boat – This is the funniest show I have seen in a longtime!  I laughed the whole way through, and I’ve not yet finished the episodes that have aired.  Being a 90s kid, and my Husband a 90s teen we both enjoy the pop culture references, like the music, t.v. shows, the fashion (Jordans, starter jackets, Reebok pumps), childhood food like Capri Sun and Lunchables.  The nostalgia alone will keep you coming back, but the humor and heart will make you stay.

Breeze blows leaves of a musty-coloured yellow

Since September is almost over I thought I might share some of my favourite things! And since it’s now officially Autumn, that just may be my theme… Maybe.

1. Tartan – I love tartans, my favourite being Nightwatch, which is typically navy and green. I have a pair of trousers in this pattern and a blazer. Here are my pants.

2. Sweaters – I have 50+ sweaters and I am always looking to expand my collection. I love lightweight knits for spring and summer, heavy wool and cashmere for fall and winter. I can not get enough. If I could own all the sweaters I would. Currently I am in the market for a heavy Fisherman style like this, and a Fair Isle (I have yet to find one to my liking).

3. Brunch – I love brunch, if I could eat brunch for every meal, I would. My favourite spot locally is the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, NY. I go as often as the wallet allows. My last visit was for my birthday. My favourite menu items include: Crab cakes Benedict, Shrimp and Arugula over linguine, the Tuxedo Bomb (and boy is it ever!), and for cocktails there is nothing better than the French martini. I know I’ve said it before, but drop what you are doing and go now! Lunch and Brunch are really reasonably priced and their cocktails are amazing!

 4. Fall T.V. – My shows are starting up again! I couldn’t be happier, already Sleepy Hollow, The Big Bang Theory, and Sons of Anarchy have aired and Blue Bloods starts tonight. So far on the new shows front I have watched Scorpion, which I like and Gotham which I love, mainly for Donal Logue, who I feel is so underrated and under utilized. I also want to catch Selfie with Karen Gillian, who I am in love with, Bad Judge and A to Z. And the rest of my shows haven’t started yet, but they will be soon!

And on that note it’s time to end.

They say it’s your birthday It’s my birthday too…

It’s September 3rd, and we are moving right along. I am trying to enjoy my day off… Not going so well thus far. Watching daytime television , paying bills and washing dishes are all that have been accomplished. Up next is taking a shower and the hour long process that is styling my hair. I did find out that Nordies is having a sale, and J. Crew Factory is as well. PSA: You know you are depressed when the thought of shopping no longer excites you. So that is where I’m at depressed days away from twenty-six. I am always depressed around my birthday. I always am made to feel like I am unimportant and I don’t matter, regardless of it it was intentional or not and The plans that I want to make no one else does. So here is my birthday wish list at twenty-six or 2014 if you will:

1. Having a day to myself where I don’t have to speak to anyone.

2. Going to the Spa for a facial.

3. Going to see a Broadway musical; preferentially Les Miserable, which will be perfect for my mood.

4. Going to the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, or the New York Public Library.

5. Elsa Peretti Bone Cuff  at Tiffany & Co.

6. The NARSissit Eyeshadow Palette at Sephora.

7. A bottle all to myself of Dom Perignon (very brut).

8. Misplaced Childhood by Marillion on vinyl.

9. All four seasons of The OC, all six seasons of Dawson’s Creek.

10. Having a day to myself where I don’t have to speak to anyone.

And on that note it’s time to end.
