Hey, you with the pretty face, welcome to the human race…

J and I recently (finally!) saw Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I was really excited to see the latest installment of the franchise, since I love, love, loved the first one! So for anyone who’s been living under a rock for the past few years, Chris Pratt portrays Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, an earthling traveling through space with rag tag group of anti heroes, who have dubbed themselves “The Guardians of the Galaxy”. But we all know them right? Good! So moving on…

The story: lack luster, for Peter finally finding his father after not knowing him his whole life, it’s pretty lame. Kurt Russell, Ego, a Celestial, finally connects with Peter only to use him to destroy the universe, and rebuild it in his image? More like egomaniac #Godcomplex #daddyissues. Then we have the Nebula-Gamora arc: will Nebula kill Gamora only then to exact her revenge on Thanos? Will Gamora kill Nebula and move on with her life? No! Nebula finally forgives Gamora only to then go on a fools errand to find Thanos and try to kill him, again #daddyissues. Of course Yondu makes an appearance, his crew mutinies against him and chaos insues. Then he finally shows some compassion and helps the Guradians destroy Ego, #I’mMaryPoppinsY’all. Then we come to my favourite and potentially only redeeming part of the film: Baby Groot, so we all know Groot sacrificed him self at the end of the first film, and was a sprout in a pot, now Groot is out of the pot and causing trouble as only a toddler can. He was always the most bad ass character IMO and he gets better scene by scene.

The music: The first film’s soundtrack was one of the best in recent memory, jam packed with great classic rock hits that just kept coming. This time around some of the songs may be a higher caliber like “My Sweet Lord” (I mean a freaking Beatle wrote it for Christ’s sake), but overall it’s just okay…

The credit scenes are good, but there are so damn many of them, they really need to simmer down, although the last one, where we see Groot as a teenager is quite funny.

Overall it was both a great and not great film, it looked great, the effect and “fight” sequences were awesome. The music, meh, it left a lot to be desired. And Baby Groot stole the show. Give it a watch, maybe two, but don’t expect the super fantastic film that the fist one was. And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

When everything feels like the movies…

The other night J and I had a movie night!  We love watching movies, but not so much going out to see them.  We often wait for movies to be released for home viewing before watching them.  So we made some popcorn, had a cocktail of two, and had an evening.

We watch Crimson Peak, starring Mia Wasikowska as Edith, a young woman who lives in Buffalo with her father played by Jim Beaver, in Buffalo, NY during Victorian times.  She has dreams of becoming a published writer (not unlike me!).  She meets a mysterious stranger at her Father’s office, whom has a business proposition for him.  This stranger, Thomas Sharpe, a Baronet from Cumbria, England, brought to life by Tom Hiddleston, and his sister Lucille, find their way into the local society.  The film also stars Charlie Hunnam and Jessica Chastain

Thomas and Edith develop an infatuation, and he proposes marriage.  Edith’s father does not agree.  I don’t want to give away anything but the rest of the film, kind of goes as expected…  Meaning I saw all of what unfolds coming from a mile away.  I will follow that up with the film looked amazing, it is very well shot, the CGI looked great.  The sets were expansive, and very well decorated.  And if this story was written as a book, I think it may have been more enjoyable for me.  I feel like the story just started to lack, and the “scary” bits at times were laughable.  Like Edith says, it’s a story with ghosts, not a ghost story.  But it’s also not much of a love story either.

I was really looking forward to seeing this film, it had the makings of a whole hell of a lot of things I really enjoy, but it fell short.  It’s not a movie I will be watching again.  But, there will be other great films that will come my way, and I may share my thoughts on some other new releases.  This film 2/5, based on how well it was shot, and the CGI, everything else meh.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

Lights, camera, action…

I mentioned yesterday that I love watching the Oscars, and I look forward to it every year.  I also mentioned that I would share a few of my favourite looks from the show.  It’s always been a great night for fashion, and I vividly remember as a little girl watching the Red Carpet show.

Can we just talk about Margot Robbie?  Did she look like an Oscar or what?  That woman can pull off just about anything.  Saoirse Ronan looked absolutely amazing in green Calvin Klein, and her mix matched earrings, TDF!  Charlize and Cate never seem to disappoint when it comes to their red carpet looks.  And Sophie Turner is looking very grown up these days.  What were your top Oscar Red Carpet looks?  And on that note, it’s time to end!

This is my show…

Tonight marks the 88th Academy Awards, or the Oscars.  A night that celebrates film and everything that goes along with the art form.  It’s one of my favourite nights of the year.  I have always been enamored with film making and I love all types of film.  What I appreciate most, is how expressive film making can be, and how the films can emote.

Yes, this years Oscars have been shrouded in controversy,  but when has it not?  With that being said, it’s always been about the fashion for me.  I live for the Red Carpet pre-show, and I always have.  They gowns… Oh, the gowns.  Ever since I was a little girl, I had dreams of one day walking the red carpet, in something so beautiful, that it made me cry.  If given the opportunity I may wear something similar to the look I am featuring today.

Of course my first Oscar look would be McQueen, even if it’s more K. Middy, than K. Moss… It’s a classic and elegant look, that screams Oscar!  The rest of my ideal look would be very simple.  Maybe a stud earring as well.  The lippie here is awesome, this Lipstick Queen colour actually mixes with your PH levels and adjusts to reveal your perfect berry shade.  It will be a part of my lippie collection very soon!  Also be on the look out for my favourite Oscar looks!  And on that note, let’s get this party started!
