In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don’t ever shine…

It’s May (#Maythefourthbewithyou), J and I will be celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary, our little girl is six months old, LDR is dropping a record this month, and Summer unofficially starts.  I figured I should hop back and post as much as I can when I can, since I have totally gotten away from that with all that has been going on! And I’m starting back up again with my latest edition of Favourite Things, there have been so many changes in my life I had to really sit and think about what few things I’ve even been able to enjoy.

  1. Tony Moly sheet masks – WTF, why did I wait so long to try these masks? There is literally one for every skin concern and they aren’t too expensive (Ulta does BOGO half off, and Amazon has them cheap too).
  2. Nivea Creme – Where has this creme been my whole life?  Oh you know chilling at the drugstore.  A must for harsh Winter skin!  Not to mention there is a light fragrance, almost balmy texture and a huge tin is under $12.00.
  3. American Gods – This gem is on Starz, based on a book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, the first episode “The Bone Orchard” is the most hauntingly beautiful single episode I’ve ever seen.  It’s a new show that debuted this summer season, about Gods old and new, there are some heavy hitters like Kristen Chenoweth, Ian McShane, and Gillian Anderson. Oh and the soundtrack TDF, I mean In the Pines?
  4. Sundress season – I have been looking forward to wearing my sundresses since Winter 2015, and now that I am closer to my fighting weight I can’t wait.  I hopefully can add one or two more to the collection, like (here or here)
  5. Big barrel curls – Since going back to work in January I have been styling big barrel curls and I am loving the look, I plan to do a tutorial, just bear with me, while I get my life together and carve out some time to photograph it! I’m all about quick and easy ways to get ready in the morning considering most mornings I’m lucky if I eat breakfast and when I do it’s almost always in the nursery these days.

Lately my days have been filled with work and taking care of our little girl, which doesn’t leave a lot of time for me, or my blog for that matter. But now that she is getting older and sleeping better I’m hoping to get back to posting at least a couple times a week, until I can get back to where I was scheduling several weeks worth in advance. And on that note it’s time to end!

All for now,

And if she had to live it all over again you know she wouldn’t change anything for the world…

This month we are exploring some of my favourite music from high school.  I listened to a lot of EMO/Punk/Alt Rock/Rock mostly from the late 90s and early 00s.  A lot of these songs I listen to all of the time, and some I haven’t heard in forever.

1. I’m Not Okay (I Promise) – My Chemical Romance
2. Parker Lewis Can’t Lose – Fall Out Boy
3. Polished and Poisoned – Monty Are I
4. You’re So Last Summer – Taking Back Sunday
5. Jesus Christ – Brand New
6. Daddy’s Little Defect – Sugarcult
7. Cigarette Song – Yellowcard
8. The Calendar Hung Itself – Bright Eyes
9. Gives You Hell – The All American Rejects
10. A Favor House Atlantic – Coheed and Cambria
11. Space – Something Corporate
12. You Charlatan – Project Rocket
13. Stuck On You – The Reunion Show
14. I Won’t Spend Another Night Alone – The Ataris
15.Almost – Bowling For Soup
16. Mass Pike – The Get Up Kids
17. Blue and Yellow – The Used
18. Thrash Unreal – Against Me
19. Catalina – The Descendents
20. Lemon-Aid – Gob

A lot of this music just spoke to me when I was an angsty teen.  I had blue hair, pyramid stud belts, mix matched earrings and a wide array of concert tees.  I was mad at the world, myself and my life.  Music was my escape, I felt free and home.  This month I went a bit over board with my selections, but there is so much more that I wanted to share.  And On that note, it’s time to end!  Happy listening.

Just as long as you stand, stand by me

Today marks our fourth wedding anniversary, and although not a lot has changed, enough has.  As for me, I switched jobs late last year, have been blogging for over two years, and I’ve set a ton of personal goals.  For J not a lot has changed.  He is like a rock, unchanging, unwavering, not a lot phases him… For the most part that can be really good, especially when I feel like I am in a constant cyclone of writing, photo shoots, and boring work stuff.  And now we are expecting our first child late this year!  As I did last year I thought I might share some photos from our wedding.  Mainly because I never did get around to creating an album, it’s on the ever growing to do list, but it never gets checked off.  A lot of the photos are of me (So, so, so sorry, J doesn’t like his photo taken too often, so I don’t share them).

There you have it, another peak into our wedding.  It’s really hard to believe that it was four years ago already!  Time really flies!  There is so much that I am looking forward to over the next year, and I can’t wait to hit five years!  And on that note, it’s time to end!

I guess we’re going everywhere together…

I have been laying low for what seems like forever…  I let a lot of scheduled posts go up and I haven’t really thought about blogging.  For good reason, I promise.  March was a really big month or me.  After four months of working at the bank I got a promotion to Head Teller of a brand new branch.  Which has been great; I am really enjoying my new position and my tellers couldn’t be better.  I also found out that I am pregnant.  That is so weird to say.  To type.  To admit.  I am pregnant.  It’s definitely something I didn’t know I wanted until it happened.  It also wasn’t something that was planned, in the sense that J and I didn’t have a clear distinct plan.  It was more if it happens then it happens.  Then April was a big month at the Bank, we went through a system upgrade, so needless to say I have been super busy!

I am now officially out of the first trimester, which has been okay, I guess.  I have been nauseous more than not, like I’ll eat and still feel nauseous.   Not so much with other less than pleasant morning sickness symptoms.  I have also been ridiculously exhausted.  Like falling asleep on the couch at 8:30, exhausted.  My previous neck and back injuries have been causing me pains, which I sort of expected, so it’s a good thing I sit all day!  I’m also experiencing the worst acne I’ve had since being a teenager.  And the use of topical acne treatments like retinol, are not recommended, buh bye, Luna Sleeping Oil, it’s been real, it’s been fun, it was really expensive!   I’ve also developed dry, flaky, red patches on my face near my eyes and mouth.  So fun!

A lot of my more fitted clothing is just not cutting it anymore; I have already invested in some maternity pants and more flowy dresses.  I’m hoping that the rest of my sun dresses will work for at least a couple more months.  I haven’t gained all that much weight, but when you’re the same size for years you tend to get really fitted clothing, and a lot of business attire is not forgiving.  And some of the selection at department stores is just not me.  I don’t wear a lot of floral, I don’t like frilly, and I am not a girly girl.  I want to look like myself, just pregnant.  I found some skinny cigarette style pants at Destination Maternity, which are great, and super comfortable.  But the search will continue as I build my pregnant/post-pregnant wardrobe.

I’m looking forward to the second trimester and the exciting things it has in store.  Yes, I got to hear the baby’s heart beat early on, and seeing the baby at my first ultrasound a couple weeks ago.  In the coming weeks we are hoping to clean out the baby’s room, do some much needed repairs, and set up the nursery.  All while I adjust to my constantly changing body, moods, and life.  And on that note it’s time to end!

All for now,

For goodness sake I think I’m on the edge of something new…

May was a big month, aside from being busy at work, my staycation, new camera and third wedding anniversary.  I accomplished a lot, from planning more/better posts, learning how to take better photos and edit them.  As I look forward to June and all it has in store, it’s time for my favourite things.

1. It’s been about a month since I cut my lob into a full blown bob, with bangs.  I love the bangs, I’m on the fence about my cut still.  The texture of my hair has changed, it’s dry, and brittle, so I embrace that by using either sea salt spray or curl enhancing gel.  Blow drying my hair straight, looks alright, but I’m still having trouble with getting the layers to lay flat, using my flat iron doesn’t really help.  It just makes my hair look like a busy frizzy mess (Hermione Granger anyone?).  I’ve even tried using different types of brushes to blow dry my hair, and I’ve had very little luck.  Back to the drawing board on that.  As my hair grows out a bit, I think that it will start to get a bit easier to style.

2. Beauty Blender – I have been using my BB make up sponge for about a month now, and I’ve got to say, they are genius.  These little pink Godsends lend themselves so well to applying just about any make up look.  I have noticed that the application of my foundation is not only much easier but looks smoother and more covered, but also really light at the same time.  I wet my BB and squeeze all of the water out prior to applying my foundation, which I dot on with the rounded bottom of the sponge, then I blend all over my face.  I typically wash my BB after two uses with the liquid BB soap I got in the set from my last Sephora order.  I find that the liquid soap cleans my BB sponge very well and it is easy to rinse off.

3. Philosophy Purity Cleanser/Microdelivery – I started using this cleanser about two weeks ago and I gotta say, I’m hooked!  I love how it smells, it is not harsh, and it’s really refreshing.  It is cheaper per ounce than my favourite Fresh Soy cleanser and I feel it works about the same.  I use this cleanser with my Clarisonic and it has been doing wonders for my skin, I am leaning towards this for a repurchase.  I also more recently started using Microdelivery from the mini set I got from my last Sephora order, and I have to say, it is also doing wonders for my skin (I used BB cream, pressed powder and a little concealer for work last week, I NEVER do that!).  I use it when I shower after my pores have had a chance to open up, and I use it according to the instructions. My skin has never looked better, red, inflamed under the skin blemishes, have calmed down almost instantly.  Black heads are few and not a deep in my pores, white heads are subsiding.  My pores look smaller and cleaner.  I have also noticed that if a new blemish rears it’s ugly head (#punintended) it is smaller and heals much quicker.  I will definitely repurchase this amazing exfoliator.

4. Shisiedo BB Cream – This is my first go at using a BB cream and I am in love! The coverage is light, hydrating and when applied correctly (with the help of concealer, and pressed powder) flawless!  I am not a flawless skin kind of gal, as you all know I am well into my twenties battling adult acne (still!).  Even though I am in love with Shisiedo right now and way loving this product I would like to find a cheaper alternative mainly due to price.  I will be on the hunt for my perfect BB cream, so stay tuned.

And on that note, it’s time to end!

Be young, be dope, be proud, like an American…

Today being Memorial Day, a day of remembrance, and honor.  And coming from a family full of military veterans it is definitely a somber one.  But for many it is also the unofficial start to Summer.  Which is a much happier reason, and is more cause for celebration.  Full of BBQs, beach days, parades and breaking out my white pieces.  I kept it patriotic today and wore my favourite red Ferrari polo, super old white midi skirt, and my navy Sperry Top-siders.  J and I spent the day together, first we had slept in and he made breakfast, which by the time we were motivated was more like lunch.  We had scrambled cheesy egg sandwiches with ham and ketchup.  J makes a mean breakfast. After we finished and got ourselves moving we had quite a busy day.  First we stopped at Boice’s Dairy in Kingston for milk shakes, we are both on a strawberry kick lately.  We like Boice’s best, not only are they really good but their price point is reasonable.  After our pit stop we had a brief visit with my sister, who was bummed that no one made any plans for today.  My sister likes any excuse to bake dessert, or make fried chicken, so don’t take that away from her.  After or visit with my sister we stopped over at a friend’s house for a few drinks and BBQ.  We enjoyed all the usual fare, burgers, hot dogs, ribs, the amazing macaroni salad our friend’s dad makes!  We also enjoyed a few drinks.    Now that May is winding down and Summer is ever close it seems like this year has already flown by.  And on that note it’s time to end!

Lucky I’m in love with my best friend…

I totally look like Cinderella.

It’s hard to believe that J and I have been married for three years!  We have been together for almost  nine years and it feels like we started dating yesterday.  I started looking through my wedding photos the other day in preparation for this post and I am still at a loss that the day went by so quickly.  We all had the best time, and my best friend still says it was the best wedding she had ever been too.  It was a very small, shabby chic, DIY Alice in Wonderland themed Spring wedding.  I wore a silk and organza dream, my makeup was simple (which I did myself, and it looks great in the pics!), but pretty and my hair was up in a bouffant like Cinderella.  After three years I am no expert on marriage, nor do I claim to be but I do know that it is a blessing and has strengthened our relationship.  J and I are best friends and continue to be to this day.  We like so many of the same things, enjoy the same sports (except football, which I will never understand), a lot of the same music (The Beatles, The Deftones, DooWop, Classic Rock), and TV shows and movies.  We like to sit home and binge watch our next new adventure, lately it Castle (mentioned here).  We also enjoy getting outdoors and hiking (and there are some great places to go locally, not all of which we have been).

My favourite photo from that day.

Today we got a late start, we didn’t really have an special plans so we went to Kitchenette (twice in one week for me!) for lunch.  I had the Fried Chicken BLT with avocado, it was super awesome!  I also had an Apricot Wheat beer, which is a very refreshing treat!  J had the BBQ Bacon burger, which he said was good.  We then visited my dad, and my sister, who was home.  We also went to our local mall which is not the best, but it was something to do.  I ended up finding this super cute Doctor Who dress and Doctor Who socks.  Two things I sort of didn’t need but I have such a soft spot for Doctor Who, and I did need some new socks.  For not making plans we had a really nice day, and the weather couldn’t have been better!  As I look forward to the next year of marriage and the years beyond, I know one thing is certain, everyday is an adventure, and who better to share it with than your best friend.  And on that note, it’s time to end.

Dancing…

Kiki
