It’s hard to live when absolutely nothing’s clear…

It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here! LDR finally dropped her latest album July 21st, and it’s super awesome! Entitled “Lust For Life”, this 16 track gem is complete with cameos, recycled themes like “white sunshine”, pearls, curls, America, blue, paradise, and “war on my mind”. There’s bits about clothing, illicit drugs, some alcohol, and all of the common hallmarks in LDR’s discography.

I am loving “Tomorrow Never Came” which features Sean Ono Lennon, I’ve never heard him sing before and his voice is amazing, it’s exactly how I’d imagine John’s son sounding.

The songs with A$AP Rocky, I didn’t think I would enjoy and I actually do. I’m normally not the biggest rap fan, but “Summer Bummer” is pretty good, and “Groupie Love” is a cool track too!

“God Bless America – And All of the Beautiful Women In It” was a stand out track for me. That and “Love” seemed the most reminiscent of standard LDR. “Get Free” is probably the best way to end the record. I get the feeling that a conscious decision was made and there’s no looking back, as if to say I’ve evolved and there is only forward to go from here.

Track Listing:

  1. Love
  2. Lust For Life
  3. 13 Beaches
  4. Cherry
  5. White Mustang
  6. Summer Bummer
  7. Groupie Love
  8. In My Feelings
  9. Coachella – Woodstock In My Mind
  10. God Bless America – And All Of The Beautiful Women In It
  11. When The World Was At War An We Kept Dancing
  12. Beautiful People Beautiful Problems
  13. Tomorrow Never Came
  14. Heroin
  15. Change
  16. Get Free

Overall it’s a good cohesive record, with that being said I love the “Born To Die/Paradise” days. There are some stand outs for me, but it’s more than likely that I’m in a different place in my life and I’m not relating to every word she writes anymore. It’s not bad, and her voice as always is top notch. And who else would work with A$AP Rocky, Sean Ono Lennon, The Weeknd, and Stevie Nicks all on one record? I would say fans will like this record, there is just enough to keep us entertained, even if you don’t know her work, check it out you may be surprised! And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

Look at you, kids, with your vintage music….

I have been away for a while, mainly because the transition into motherhood has been a challenge, meaning it’s the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my life.  I have also been adjusting to my new position as Branch Supervisor at work.

But the reason we have gathered here today is to speak about the Sephora VIB sale.  I carefully curated my order for several days.  I mainly went with products I’ve used before, with a couple of new buys.

  1. Rosebud Salve – I went with the minted version after three tins of regular.  I love everything mint and I am hoping this is no different.
  2. Clinique Take Off the Day Cleansing Balm – I tried a deluxe sample of this and I love it! It really melts away my makeup. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a full size.
  3. Boscia Luminizing Mask – I have been looking for a new clearing mask for awhile now, GlamGlow SuperMud is no longer cutting it for me. I’m excited to try this because it’s a peel off mask.
  4. Shishiedo Sun Screen – I used the wet force version last summer or I should say my Husband did, and I needed some more, I’m looking forward to trying this version.
  5. Sephora Makeup Remover – I really like this product I’ve been using it for a while now, I feel it works well and it’s a great value for the money.
  6. Clarisonic Repalcement heads – I have been using the delicate brushes for a few years now and I feel they work well for my sensitive skin.  The sensitive brushes were too harsh, I’m glad I switched.
  7. L’Occitane Immortelle Eye Balm – I have used a ton of different eye creams and gels and this is the one.  It’s “balmy” and delicate, the scent is light and the moisturizing power is top notch.
  8. Clinique Mascara – I used this mascara before, I liked it, it was a basic tubular formula. I went back mainly for the price and I’m hoping round two is enjoyable.
  9. First Aid Beauty Moisturizer – I’ve never used this branch before but I have been wanting to try this. Since giving birth my skin is no longer the same and I’m hoping going back to a more traditional moisturizer will help.

That rounds out my Sephora order, I went with a light order, I tend to go big with the Autumn sale.  I’m looking forward to getting my order in the next few days.

I’m hoping to get back into posting on a more regular basis, it’s been an interesting few months and everyday has been a journey, an amazing crazy journey.  And on that note it’s time to end!

All for now,

Kiki

Cruising down the coast goin’ ’bout 99…

For my 100th post I thought I might do something a little different.  This post is special, it marks how far I have come with this blog and as I take a look back on the past (Breakfast at Kiki’s has been around for almost two years now guys! And I couldn’t be more excited about that!), I will take a peak into the future and aspire to be better in the future.

I started writing creatively at a very young age, I think I was about nine or ten.  I mainly wrote songs (they were really bad…), poems and short stories.  I also kept extensive journals going back to third or fourth grade (around the same time).  I would fill these journals (composition notebooks were my weapon of choice) with my daily activities and the aforementioned creativity.  As I got older my writing style and composition grew, as it would in most cases.  I also started to write screenplays, I’ve written about ten or so, not that they are good at all, or will ever see the light of day.  It wasn’t until high school that I really became passionate about writing.  My creative writing, journalism and acting teacher (Yes, I had the same teacher for three classes in one year, that’s how awesome she was!) really drove me, her critiques we unusual, her methods maddening, and her use of the English language was second to none.  She could explain how to lay a brick the right way to a career mason and make it interesting.  One day I wanted to become a writer (Now that just seems silly, I writing now), I later realized that I am a writer and I really just wanted to be published, which is something different entirely.  She made me understand that, as simple and silly as it may have been at the time.

Fashion is the only other passion that hasn’t changed much over the years… Even through my “Fashion Victim” phase where blue hair, concert tees and ripped jeans were the norm.  I still lusted after the Dior and Chanel runway shows (Except ’07 the whole line was denim, no, thank you!), Manolo Blahniks and a fox fur lined Levis denim jacket.  I may no longer have blue hair, or mix matched Converse All Stars.  I’ve graduated to silk blouses, cashmere sweaters, pearls, and suit separates.  I even own Manolos now, (Yay! Adulthood!).  I also don’t collect editorials in a Trapper Keeper (Remember those? Mine was red and had a bitchin’ metallic unicorn on the cover [I wonder whatever happened to that thing?]), I save them on my lap top now or on my Pinterest boards (I am still very obsessed with Pinterest).  My forever wardrobe grows, my ensembles are stronger, more worthy of photos, or even Instagram.  I’m still trying to pin down my beauty routines.  My skin is still acne prone, which makes it harder to find products that work well.  I am still on the road to recovery on that front and  I am confident that one day I will be the skincare champ and kick my adult acne in the butt!

After a look into the past, it’s time to look forward.  I’m looking forward to growing as a blogger, I feel like this process has taught me so much.  Not only about content, photography and photo editing (Photoshop help courtesy of J), but about myself.  I have longed for a creative outlet that wasn’t challenging, but everything in life is.  Now that I have a creative outlet that I have craved for so long I am constantly coming up with new ideas, following writing prompts and Googling how to make my little space of the internet better and a reflection of me.  And on that note it’s time to end!

All for now,
Kiki

Title from:Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey

They judge me like a picture book By the colors, like they forgot to read…

February is really winding down, it’s so insane how quickly time is going, it’s almost surreal.  I have been listening to Lana Del Rey like there is no tomorrow. Today Husband and I went shopping and had some lunch at the Cheesecake Factory (insert TBBT joke here: Penny, Penny, PENNY). We headed up to Albany early this morning to beat the weather that started early afternoon.

First we went to Crossgates mall and got some new towels and a new, nice model Keurig, our 2 + year old single cup is getting really tired, so we upgraded, and I am super excited because I use it everyday. Our towels desperately needed replacing we have had the same set that we received as a wedding gift. Then we walked around the mall for a bit, before leaving I picked up some camis from Forever 21, at $1.90 plus tax, you really can’t go wrong. I got 2 black, 2 charcoal, a navy, and a hunter green. I love them for many reasons, they are lightweight, extremely comfortable, easy to wear, easy to style, and layer. And layering is a must up my way in NY. It has been extremely cold, and today was no different. After our Crossgates stay we made our way, after getting a little side tracked, to Colonie Center for some lunch and of course cheesecake! I got the Kahlua today, it’s really good! I strongly recommend it! And after lunch I did it, I found Lancome Visionnaire and I bought the 1 oz size. I saw it was available and I bought it before I could talk myself out of it. I also played around with some NARS red lipsticks. I think I am going to try Audacious Annabell, it was a nice, semi matte red, that I think will work well. I also played around with some liquid eyeliner. I am terrible with it, but now they have marker like applicators and I think with a little practice, I could become an old pro in no time. Alas these are items to be purchased for another time, possibly this summer, or when I start running out of the items I can’t live without and the new products I am trialing. And on that note it’s time to end.

All for now,
Kiki

But you fit me better than my favourite sweater…

I recently discovered Lana Del Rey and I must say (and rhyme apparently!) I am obsessed. Super cool, 60s inspired, makes me want to drink a martini, shaken not stirred, dress like Marilyn, style my hair like Priscilla, all while smoking a cigarette. I’m loving what I’ve heard. I need to get her albums. Feeling inspired I filed my nails, shaped them almond like and painted them red. I need a creamier red, and more red. My ensembles for the week are a little retro inspired and all will work well with my new nails. I wish I could wear a floral crown to work. And maybe get up at 4 a.m. everyday to curl set my hair to make it look like Veronica Lake.

My J. Crew order arrived, I can’t wait to wear everything. Like I mentioned I planned all of my ensembles for the week. I’ll have to take some pictures of my new pieces and how I plan to wear them.

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, Husband and I enjoyed $70+ of sushi, which we ordered out from our favourite sushi place, Kyoto, in Kingston, NY and we enjoyed some wine. I was feeling crummy after working all day and we had a snow storm in the Hudson Valley. And on that note it’s time to end.

All for now,
Kiki
