Put your white tennis shoes on and follow me…

This week we are going casual again.  I recently rediscovered this sweatshirt and I haven’t wanted to take it off since.  Being that I am a total Potterhead it’s very fitting (have you checked out the new updated Pottermore site?  It’s amazing, sorting is back, so go and find out your house!  I’m totally a Ravenclaw, and anyone who knows me would probably agree as long as they know what I am talking about!)

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good

J bought me this sweatshirt years and years ago.  He knows I love me some Harry Potter and he even participated in a few midnight releases, and gone to some movie premiers.  And can we talk just a moment about Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them?  How awesome is Eddie Redmayne going to be?  And can you even wait for it?  I know I can’t!  #isitnovemberyet  And on that note, it’s time to end!

it’s not the falling of the temperature…

This weekend was much like the past four, I worked all day Saturday, slept in Sunday, then J and I went to my parents house.  We hung out had some lunch and dinner.  My sister mad home made pizza it was fantastic!  We had originally planned to check out the battle reenactment of the Battle of Forsyth, part of the Burning of Kingston biannual activities, but it was very cold, it even snow flurried for most of the day.  Being that it was so cold I put on my favourite jeans and flannel, layered on a sweater for extra warmth and I finally got to debut my Hunter Wellies and Burberry quilted jacket.  I picked up the Hunter Wellies from the Nordstrom anniversary sale (though, not on sale), and I found this Burberry quilted Jacket second hand from an antique shop in Saugerties for way less than they are typically on sale.  Both are very comfortable and warm.  Especially during the cooler months.  And on that note it’s time to end!

Top: Tommy Hilfiger (similar), Sweater: H&M (similar), Jeans: Gap (similar and on sale), Boots: Hunter, Boot Socks: Hunter, Jacket: Burberry (similar), Sunnies: Ray-Ban and on sale, Necklace: Tiffany & Co., Lipstick: Nars Gipsy

Spring blossoms you to me…

Spring is slowly trying to peek through, and with the nice, sunny, almost seasonally normal weather we have been having in the Hudson Valley, I have finally had a chance to break out my spring clothes! I have been coming up with ensembles I want to try basically all winter long and now that it’s finally coming to a close I thought it might be a good time to share some of my favourite pieces as well as some new additions and how I plan to style them. I am in the process of adding some new S/S15 items, and with the release of Lilly Pulitzer x Target tomorrow, I will be well on my way. I’m also waiting for my bonus from work to get another (or two or three) gift cards to take some of the burden off of my wallet!

I’m so excited to wear some of my favourites from last year and even earlier, like my J. Crew Factory finds from last year: eyelet peter pan collar blouse, boat sweater, khaki skimmer pants, and gingham button up. J. Crew is easily my favourite store, everything fits well, is made to last and so easy to mix and match. I am constantly checking the sale section for in season finds that are discounted. And J. Crew factory often has similar offerings to the full price big sister with out breaking the bank.

Next would be my sundresses, I own several that I have collected over the past few years. Sundresses are my Spring/Summer weakness, they are just so easy to wear/style and I WEAR them a lot! You can wear a sundress to work, play, the beach, brunch, even out for date night. Choosing my favourite is really hard, since I wear them all, but if I had to choose I would have to narrow it down to two, one from Gap that I don’t even remember when I bought it. It’s black, sleeveless and has a ruffle collar, this will be in my closet until it’s threadbare and then when it is I will wear a black slip underneath it, that’s how much I love this thing! I’m wearing it today and even though we aren’t really doing anything special. It’s just further proof that when the sun’s out that sun dresses are my go to! Since this particular dress is so old, finding similar items proved to be a slight challenge here are some of my favourite black options from Asos: here, here, and here. The second would be a navy v-neck short sleeve with a big sailboat print, it’s From G.H. Bass, I picked it up at the outlets in 2012. I love this one because I can wear it to work and not even have to try, it’s just that simple (in a nautical east coast preppy sort of way).

Spring also means sandal season and letting my little piggies hang out! I have been waiting to wear my Dr. Scholl’s pink sandals I picked up last year. I wore them all the time, for being pink, they are also a really easy to style shade. It’s also going to be time to break out my Jimmy Choo flats I think I picked them up in 2010 or 2011 (I even had my own sort of Pretty Woman moment when I bought them…) they are one of if not the most well made and comfortable pairs of shoes I have ever purchased or have ever owned. My Tommy Hilfiger two piece flats that just had to come home with me after spotting them in my local Macy’s last spring, while they are not the most comfortable, I still love them any way, and they are really easy to style with most of my S/S wardrobe. I’m also looking forward to wearing skirts and sundresses with my Kate Spade New York Kick Keds. They are the cutest little sneaks I’ve ever seen and based on the fact that that not only have the cutest little polka dot pattern, but they also have one dot that is striped?! I know I’ve mentioned them before but just behold the awesomeness that is these sneakers! And on that note it’s time to end!

I’ve got the month of May

Now that May has come to a close and summer has unofficially started it seems as though it’s about time I share my favourite things for May!

First up is outlet shopping! Now any fashionista knows that this is not all it’s cracked up to be… However, if you are willing to put the time and effort in to an outlet mall or one of the many discount websites you may or may not know about, you can end up with a great wardrobe for less! For instance I have been all about J. Crew lately, but my wallet has not, so I found similar pieces at J. Crew Factory, some items are not created equal, but most of them are good quality for the price. In addition to J. Crew Factory, I am also loving The The Outnet, Nordstrom Rack, Saks off 5th and Last Call (Neiman Marcus).
I am fortunate enough to live very close (two hours max) from a few outlet malls in the tri state area. My favourite is Woodbury Commons, or the Commons as local folks call it. I have been on numerous shopping trips there and gotten many nice, quality name brand items for less. And there is a wide selections of stores from Gap and American Eagle to Gucci and Saks of 5th. And they always have coupons you can download ahead of time if you sign up. And some sister stores will give you coupons at the register for more savings. It’s a lot of walking and waiting in line. But well worth it ( in most cases). I like to make a day out of it!
Paper crafts is my latest obsession… I recently started making a photo album/ organizer thing with an Alice in Wonderland theme. So far I don’t have all that much completed, but it’s starting to come together! My mother got me into paper crafts, she makes her own cards.
Here’s looking forward to June and Summer! And on that note it’s time to end.

All for now,
Kiki
