Look at you, kids, with your vintage music….

I have been away for a while, mainly because the transition into motherhood has been a challenge, meaning it’s the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my life.  I have also been adjusting to my new position as Branch Supervisor at work.

But the reason we have gathered here today is to speak about the Sephora VIB sale.  I carefully curated my order for several days.  I mainly went with products I’ve used before, with a couple of new buys.

  1. Rosebud Salve – I went with the minted version after three tins of regular.  I love everything mint and I am hoping this is no different.
  2. Clinique Take Off the Day Cleansing Balm – I tried a deluxe sample of this and I love it! It really melts away my makeup. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a full size.
  3. Boscia Luminizing Mask – I have been looking for a new clearing mask for awhile now, GlamGlow SuperMud is no longer cutting it for me. I’m excited to try this because it’s a peel off mask.
  4. Shishiedo Sun Screen – I used the wet force version last summer or I should say my Husband did, and I needed some more, I’m looking forward to trying this version.
  5. Sephora Makeup Remover – I really like this product I’ve been using it for a while now, I feel it works well and it’s a great value for the money.
  6. Clarisonic Repalcement heads – I have been using the delicate brushes for a few years now and I feel they work well for my sensitive skin.  The sensitive brushes were too harsh, I’m glad I switched.
  7. L’Occitane Immortelle Eye Balm – I have used a ton of different eye creams and gels and this is the one.  It’s “balmy” and delicate, the scent is light and the moisturizing power is top notch.
  8. Clinique Mascara – I used this mascara before, I liked it, it was a basic tubular formula. I went back mainly for the price and I’m hoping round two is enjoyable.
  9. First Aid Beauty Moisturizer – I’ve never used this branch before but I have been wanting to try this. Since giving birth my skin is no longer the same and I’m hoping going back to a more traditional moisturizer will help.

That rounds out my Sephora order, I went with a light order, I tend to go big with the Autumn sale.  I’m looking forward to getting my order in the next few days.

I’m hoping to get back into posting on a more regular basis, it’s been an interesting few months and everyday has been a journey, an amazing crazy journey.  And on that note it’s time to end!

All for now,

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end…

For those of you who frequent Breakfast @ Kiki’s then you know I am obsessed with skincare and beauty products.  And I almost exclusively shop at Sephora, yes, there is the occasional drug store find, gift, or exclusive department store splurge.  And I try to keep it to a minimum (who I am kidding, I made Rouge in April!).  But in all seriousness, this is a post I have been wanting to put up for a while now.  Over on the Sephora message boards (Beauty Talk) there is a thread about empties, a lot of patrons (Beauty Talkers, BTers for short) go through what they’ve used on a monthly basis and talk about what they liked and didn’t.  This thread is one of my favourites.  I’m addicted to reading about what everyone has used and their thoughts.  I love reading reviews, especially before trying something new.  And I feel as though I can’t write a helpful review until you’ve trialed a product for at least a couple weeks.  So I thought I’d share some of the products that I’ve used up recently. So here goes!

Lotus Youth Preserve Eye Gel – Fresh – Okay, I liked the smell and how cooling it was, but even with the smallest amount of product, it made my eyes tear.  I’ve moved on to L’Occitane.

Translucent Pressed Powder – Shisiedo – Easy to use, convenient size, reusable compact, not long lasting, I think I went through it in about a month.  Will continue to search.  I just started using Besame Violet powder (which smells divine, BTW) and have had good results so far.

Texas Tea Shampoo – Drybar – Smells like booze, does not lather, and I don’t feel like my hair is clean, I’m sticking with my tried and true Pantine.

Texas Tea Conditioner – Drybar – Also smells like booze, not very thick, I also don’t feel like it’s conditioning anything, again sticking with Pantine.

Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover – Lancome – Good basic eye makeup remover, I got this as a deluxe sample, I’m sure I can find a less expensive alternative.  I just started Sephora brand and so far it’s working well.

Visionnaire – Lancome – I got this deluxe a long time ago, and I loved it.  Then I went on the great Visionnare  search of 2015, early this year, only to splurge on full size and hate it.  I’ve since moved on to Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Oil, and I’ve fallen hard.

Sensitive Brush Head – Clarisonic – I started with the sensitive head, I think it’s too harsh, switching to the delicate head, we’ll see how that goes.

Seaberry Oil – Fresh – I love this stuff, I can’t get enough.  I use it all year round.  This was my second bottle.  I also use it as a moisturizer and on my elbows an knees when they get dry in the winter months.

Eudermine Revitalizing Essence – Shisiedo – I feel this is a basic toner, with that being said the smell is amazing, it is refreshing and the bottle is drop dead gorgeous!

Face Finishing Moisturizer – Perricone MD – I got this deluxe sample as a point perk, and I’m not impressed.  I don’t like the smell, it feels heavy on the face, the consistency feels a bit balmy, and I feel like it makes my skin red and blotchy.  Not for me.

Bad Gal mascara – Benefit -This mascara made my lashes look amazing, but then it melted and I had raccoon eyes… Very annoying, it’s not gone, but I’m trying something else.

Definicils Mascara – Lancome – I was first introduced to this mascara as a teenager, my Mom had a GWP and she doesn’t wear a lot of make up so she gave it to me.  I feel like it’s a solid basic mascara, it coats my lashes well, it doesn’t clump too bad, and it doesn’t smudge terribly.  It’s also really easy to remove.  It’s not the best, but it’s not the worst.  My one big downside: I feel the product dries in the tube super quickly.  I may be exaggerating slightly, but I just opened a deluxe sample mid November, and by the end of November, it was completely dry by the end of the month.  But if I’m going to spend the money, I’d rather spend it on Diorshow.

Daily Moisturizing Lotion – Aveeno – I have been using this lotion on and off for the past few years.  It is very thick and it hydrates well.  I prefer it during the winter months when my skin is moist dry.  I feel like I get a good value for the price.  It has a pump, but my bottle fell and it broke off, so I found that to be annoying, even though it was totally my fault.

Dry Nail Drying Spray – Formula X – I bought this spray because I do my nails myself and I hate waiting for them to dry.  I really wanted to like this spray, but I don’t think it works well for me.  I have already switched to the Nail Drying Drops and I like them much better.

Express Wipes – Sephora – I love these make up remover wipes, they take everything off!  When I am really lazy and I don’t feel like washing my face these are a go to.  They are reasonably priced, smell nice, and when I say they take all of my make up off I am not kidding.

Pro-Prime Light Optimizing Primer – Nars – I got a sample of this primer a few years back.  And I loved it.  I decided to revisit it mid this year, and I was not impressed.  I don’t think that it was nearly as good as my sample.  I’m sticking with Benefit POREfessional.

Complexion Rescue – BareMinerals – I tried this after my summer time love affair with Shisiedo’s BB cream.  My intent was to find something cheaper.  Yes, this is cheaper and the shade matched decently to my colouring, but I don’t really like it.  I fell like it melts off, oxidizes a lot, and I feel like I need to wear a ton of it just to get my skin tone even.  For the winter I went back to my tried and true Clinique foundation.

Perfectly Real Makeup – Clinique – This is my go to foundation.  I have been using it for years and I have had very good results.  I try to keep a couple of backups just in case.  I feel that the price is good for the quality, and it takes me at least 1-2 months to get through a bottle.  I haven’t had a reason to switch, I really like this foundation.

Ceramic Slip Cleanser – Sunday Riley – Sample from Sephora, I got this to try on a whim.  I only had enough for one try, I can’t say how I feel either way after using, but it is out of my price range for now.

Master Cleanse Daily Brush Cleanser – Sephora – I use this everyday to decontaminate my concealer and foundation brushes.  I like this product a lot and I have been using it for a few years now.

Old and Gross:

Makeup Forever Lipstick #9 – The colour and formula were great, but it started to smell a bit weird so it’s time for it to go.  I may repurchase in the future.

Clinique Lipstick Black Honey – A perfect sheer berry, it’s supposed to be universally flattering.  I really liked it, this was my second tube.  I may repurchase.

Clinique Lipstick Angel Red – This shade is beautiful, more of a blue red, but again it began to smell funny.  I probably won’t repurchase.

Nars Eye and Lip palette from 2008 or 2009 (I don’t remember) – This was the best thing since sliced bread in my just getting into the high end makeup world circa 2007-2008.  It had four lip colours, four eye shadows and two multiples.  This is where I was introduced to Ondine eye shadow, a plum colour in perfect complement to my green eyes, Nightclubbing eye shadow, black with gold glitter, great for a smokey eye or liner.  I also met lip faves like Dolce Vita, a dusty rose, and my beloved Gipsy, a sheer berry red.  Anyway, this palette was so old and gross that the outside of it was sticky… It should have been tossed long ago and therefore it is not pictured.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

She laughs like god, her mind’s like a diamond…

It’s now March, and it is still way too cold. They say it comes in like a lion and what not. I guess that’s true… More not so great things at work, we’ve been through worse so I’m sure everything will work out. I guess I should share some of my favourite things for February. It was a short month and I have been brainstorming for a few days trying to come up with some thing to talk about. So here goes!

1. Fresh Soy Cleanser – This stuff is great! It smells like cucumbers, not unlike most of the Fresh products that I have tried recently. This face cleanser is calming, cooling and very refreshing. I have been using it with my Clarisonic for a couple weeks and I really like it. The only down side is the price, it’s expensive, and for something that I use twice a day I can’t justify spending $38 for a full size. Especially not when I am very happy with the Neutragena cleanser I have been using for a couple years and more recently with my Clarisonic. Maybe if I win the lottery, or get a big promotion at work. And I spend too much on beauty products and skincare, but I can’t with this. It’s offered is the 1.7 oz size in stater kits and offered as a sample frequently at Sephora so I know I can revisit it.

2. Fresh Rose eye gel – I have been using this eye gel for weeks now, I love the strong rose smell and my eye area is smoother and brighter. Yes, it’s $40.00 fr a full size, and this is my first purchase and I have no clue how long it will last and I feel like I put too much on when I use it, but I really like it. I think it addresses what I need it to right now. I know that once I start to age more and I get deeper lines and my skin looses elasticity I will need some thing stronger. I have only been using this eye gel at night because I find that the consistency is not conducive to putting primer, foundation, concealer and then powder on top.

3. Fresh Seaberry Restorative cream – I have also been using this for a few weeks. I love the scent and the consistency. I mainly put it on after my showers after shaving my legs and on my hands and elbows. It has a sort of lemony refreshing scent not like most Fresh products I have tried. I really like it, but I probably wouldn’t purchase this again because of the price. I have been using Aveeno for a couple years and for the money this for full size from Sephora is $26.00 I can get the same result for $11.00 for a two pack at Sam’s club and no fragrance (again I don’t mind, but Husband does).

And I am also loving home made pizza! Husband and I make some at least once a week. We make all different varieties. My favourites are chicken Cordon Bleu and Buffalo Ranch. We have not yet ventured into making our own crust. When I find a recipe I like we will. Right now we buy store made whole wheat crust and add what ever we have on hand. We then use our pizza stone to cook the pies (sometimes it is more than one in an evening!) Please share what your favourite pizza varieties are, I am always open to trying new foods! And on that note it’s time to end.

Money is the anthem of success, So put on mascara, and your party dress

Since I have admitted my problem with buying ALL the cosmetics, I figured I’d share some of my
(GASP) drugstore faves! For anyone that knows me there are more than you may think. Okay, here we go!

1. EOS lip balm — I got so many of these little egg shaped lip balms for Christmas, and I know I have mentioned them before. There are amazing and like crack, which I guess to a fiend, would be pretty amazing. My favourite is the sweet mint, not only does it do wonders for my lips but it is also calming and cooling.

2. Neutrogena Naturals facial cleanser — I have been using this cleanser with my Clarisonic for about a year now, and even before Clarisonic entered into m life and I love it, it is not super drying, and washes the day off. I always keep a back up.

3. Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak dry shampoo — I blow my hair out once or twice a week and the only way to maintain it is dry shampoo. This stuff is total HG status in my world. It is no more that $5.00 a bottle at my local Wal-Mart (a total steal). It smells great and even though I am a brunette it does not leave residue.

4. Not Your Mother’s She’s a Tease volumizing hair spray — Again total HG in my world. This hair spray smells amazing, holds like a dream and just won’t quit on me.

5. Equate sponge applicators — I have been using Wal-Mart brand make up sponges to apply my foundation 85-95% of the time since I started wearing liquid foundation. I only use them once then move on, and for the price, one can afford to. This year I do plan to use my nice brushes more often, but these are great to fall back on.

And on that note it’s time to end. I had a ball sharing some of my favourite drugstore beauty finds, I hope those of you who read try them! Let me know what you think, and even share your own favs!

A girl with kaleidoscope eyes…

This three day weekend was filled with both accomplishment and laziness, if that can even be possible… Saturday Husband and I purchased a much needed new bed that will be delivered the Saturday. Sunday consisted of sleeping in and laying around all day. Oh, and dropping $400+ at Sephora. I plan to go into more detail when my order arrives next week. I got some stuff I have been meaning to try like the Fresh Black Tea mask and Rose eye cream, Nars pressed powder, and And God Created Woman eye kit. Along with more primer, foundation and Clarisonic replacement heads. I have been a huge Nars fan over the years, I live for Orgasm blush and Gipsy lipstick. I’ve been using them for so long! As for Fresh, I am a recent convert. My love affair started with the Seaberry oil, I can’t wait to try the mask and eye cream. I think my next Sephora purchase will include the Soy cleanser and sugar lip balm. And on that note, it’s time to end.
