Look at you, kids, with your vintage music….

I have been away for a while, mainly because the transition into motherhood has been a challenge, meaning it’s the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my life.  I have also been adjusting to my new position as Branch Supervisor at work.

But the reason we have gathered here today is to speak about the Sephora VIB sale.  I carefully curated my order for several days.  I mainly went with products I’ve used before, with a couple of new buys.

  1. Rosebud Salve – I went with the minted version after three tins of regular.  I love everything mint and I am hoping this is no different.
  2. Clinique Take Off the Day Cleansing Balm – I tried a deluxe sample of this and I love it! It really melts away my makeup. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a full size.
  3. Boscia Luminizing Mask – I have been looking for a new clearing mask for awhile now, GlamGlow SuperMud is no longer cutting it for me. I’m excited to try this because it’s a peel off mask.
  4. Shishiedo Sun Screen – I used the wet force version last summer or I should say my Husband did, and I needed some more, I’m looking forward to trying this version.
  5. Sephora Makeup Remover – I really like this product I’ve been using it for a while now, I feel it works well and it’s a great value for the money.
  6. Clarisonic Repalcement heads – I have been using the delicate brushes for a few years now and I feel they work well for my sensitive skin.  The sensitive brushes were too harsh, I’m glad I switched.
  7. L’Occitane Immortelle Eye Balm – I have used a ton of different eye creams and gels and this is the one.  It’s “balmy” and delicate, the scent is light and the moisturizing power is top notch.
  8. Clinique Mascara – I used this mascara before, I liked it, it was a basic tubular formula. I went back mainly for the price and I’m hoping round two is enjoyable.
  9. First Aid Beauty Moisturizer – I’ve never used this branch before but I have been wanting to try this. Since giving birth my skin is no longer the same and I’m hoping going back to a more traditional moisturizer will help.

That rounds out my Sephora order, I went with a light order, I tend to go big with the Autumn sale.  I’m looking forward to getting my order in the next few days.

I’m hoping to get back into posting on a more regular basis, it’s been an interesting few months and everyday has been a journey, an amazing crazy journey.  And on that note it’s time to end!

Black leather too…

I aootd04271m totally breaking one of my cardinal fashion rules, an oldie but one that I have held true for years.  I’m wearing white before Memorial Day!  I know, gasp!  But more so, that I am so old fashioned rather than actually wearing white.  Time and time again, it has been proven that anyone, can wear anything, at anytime, all one needs is the confidence to pull it off.  So, I have been daydreaming about this look all Winter long, waiting for the warmer weather to share it!  And I gotta say, it’s totally bad ass!

ootd04272 ootd04273Dress: Asos (old, similar), Jacket: Calvin Klein (old, similar), Boots: Doc Martens

Any excuse I have to wear this shirt dress from Asos, it take full advantage, it’s just so comfortable and easy to wear.  I typically need to wear a slip with it because it is semi-sheer.  I also capitalize on wearing my DMs, because I’m still (I know) breaking these boots in, and it has not been so fun.  But I love that this ensemble is so badass!  It’s really in your face, and sassy.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung…

For this months playlist we are featuring a single band, and this band just so happens to be one of my favourites, obviously!  I came to this party a little late, admittedly, but once I arrived I was totally hooked.  It started with four lads from Liverpool, and the rest is Rock ‘n Roll history.  Yeah, that’s right, we’re talking about The Beatles!

1.Twist and Shout
2. Revolution 1
3. Eight Days a Week
4. When I’m 64
5. Hey Bulldog
6. Hello Little Girl
7. Sexy Sadie
8. Paperback Writer
9. Helter Skelter
10. Taxman
11. Drive My Car
12. Girl
13. Dear Prudence
14. It Won’t Be Long
15. Please Please Me
16. Help
17. Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite
18. All You Need is Love
19. Oh! Darling
20. Let it Be

This playlist is a bit longer than normal, I try to shoot for 10-15 songs.  But when it comes to such a great band such as The Beatles, I had to go a bit longer.  Yes, my tastes may not be the norm, but almost every Beatles’ song, even the remakes are good in their own right.  I’ve included some pictures of my Beatles collection.  Most of my music (like many I’m sure) is in mp3 form.  But I can say there is nothing like listening to music on vinyl, and I have been fortunate enough to find a Beatles record in good condition.  And when they re-released some albums on CD a few years back I bought a couple.  Happy listening!  And on that note, it’s time to end!

Leave it all behind, let the ocean wash it away…

ootd04181This week I am sharing one of my favourite sun dresses.  This dress is from the Lilly Pulitzer x Target collection from last year (last seen here).  The pieces went very fast, and I was only able to snag a few pieces.  This dress is perfect for Spring and Summer, and it has sea urchins all over it!  So were #gettinnauti this week too!

This dress is great for a few reasons, I was actually able to purchase it and not over spend.  It is great worn alone, or with a cardi.  Can be styled for work or play and it fits really well, I’m wearing a small!

I paired this cardi/dress combo with my favourite vintage belt.  This gold beauty came to me from J’s grandmother.  It doesn’t have any hallmarks on it so I have no idea when or where it’s from.  I do know that it is completely badass!  And on that note, it’s time to end!

It’s my favorite color and my favorite tone of song…

Now that it’s officially Spring, and mid April, I am really starting to break out my S/S pieces and wearing the heck out of them!  And for this look we are #gettingnauti!  I’ve mentioned here and there that I grew up by the beach, and it was an amazing experience, so naturally I have an affinity for all things nautical.  Whether it’s fashion or home decor, if it’s nautical, I’m there.

I love this combo for Spring and Summer.  The blue is beautiful, the sail boat is adorable, and this ensemble can easily be worn to the office, or out to brunch with the girls.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

In my khaki pants, there’s nothing better…

Close up

This week we are going a little more casual with this look.  Yes, it can be work appropriate, or great for brunch on Sunday!  These pieces are a couple of Spring favourites of mine from J. Crew Factory.  I have amassed quite the J. Crew collection over the past few years and I really like the brand.  Yes, they are technically “Fast Fashion” which I try to stay away from, but I find that the pieces I have invested in are of great quality and many have lasted for years, and will for years to come.

Jimmy Choo

||Blouse: J. Crew Factory (old, similar)||Pants: J. Crew Factory (color no longer available, similar)||Shoes: Jimmy Choo (old, similar here and here)||Clutch: Coach (old, similar here)||

I love this blouse for a couple of reasons, the first being the adorable Peter Pan collar, the second being the eyelet pattern, and the third being how easy it is to wear.  I’ve worn it with a skirt, a suit, jeans, or khakis like I’m sharing today.  My flats are one of my favourite pairs of flats I own.  I’ve had them for years, they are so comfortable, easy to wear and look great with just about anything.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

From an era we hate to admit we embrace…

It’s already the end of April, and that is pretty hard to believe!  I’ve been sitting here thinking about some of my favourite things over the past month and I think I have it narrowed down.  It’s going to be a short list is month because I am trying to get through my newly-ish acquired makeup/skincare and I have been working feverishly on posts.  Without further delay, my April favourite things!

1. Polishing my nails – I have gotten back on the nail polish bandwagon in a big way over the past few months.  I mainly stick to the classics: red, navy, black, coral.  But I have been experimenting with fun shades of nude, green (emerald, mint, and what Husband calls Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle green {Revlon Posh from 2014}), rose gold, sky blue, bubble gum pink, smoke and the occasional matte top coat.  While my polish collection grows and my hand steadies I get more and more obsessed.  Being in a professional position where I use my hands on the regular I have on average of two manis a week, just to keep the chips at bay.  While I have mainly been on the drugstore polish only, I more recently started adding some higher quality brands to the collection and I must say the investment is worth it.  I also opened up my Butter Tops and Tails set and so far (one mani down) I am in love, the base coat is matte and “nail colour” if that makes sense.  The top coat is high shine and dries quickly. I am eager to use the minis up and get full size (yes all after one use).  I also opened up my Formula X Clix set, I started with the nude colour, I only needed two coats to cover well (almost unheard of in my world). The formula (hehe #iprefermypunsintended) is smooth, consistent and highly pigmented. I would repurchase full size polishes for sure.

2. Origins Activated Charcoal mask – I picked this up about a month ago in hopes that it would replace GlamGlow SuperMud and it did in a big way!  As I’ve mentioned before Origins is quickly becoming on of my favourite brands (behind Fresh, Nars and Shiseido).  I use this mask at least once a week and it does wonders for clearing my pores, it’s a must try and much cheaper than SuperMud.

3. Castle – This show is amazing!  Nathan Fillion (swoon) and Stana Katic play Castle and Beckett, respectively.  Beckett is a no nonsense Homicide cop for the NYPD and Castle is a mystery writer who tags along.  I love this show for so many reasons!  Not to mention the constant comedic lines coming from Fillion, the twisted plots of the murder mysteries, and the sarcasm that Katic throws his way.  The nerd in my loves the literature references, the Firefly references, and the general euphoria I get from the show.

4. Fresh Off the Boat – This is the funniest show I have seen in a longtime!  I laughed the whole way through, and I’ve not yet finished the episodes that have aired.  Being a 90s kid, and my Husband a 90s teen we both enjoy the pop culture references, like the music, t.v. shows, the fashion (Jordans, starter jackets, Reebok pumps), childhood food like Capri Sun and Lunchables.  The nostalgia alone will keep you coming back, but the humor and heart will make you stay.
