What do you get when you take Godzilla to the mall?

It’s hard to believe it, but July like totally flew by! As we look to August I thought I might share some of my favourite things!!

  1. The Nordstrom Anniversary sale – The biggest and best Nordies sale of the year, where else can you get in season new items up to 40% off? Two words: No where! Because of my low/no buy initiative that I try to follow, I bought things that I needed and a couple to clearance splurges. You can see what I picked up (here)
  2. Lust For Life – LDR’s latest record dropped, it’s worth a listen or two! You can check my take on the record (here).
  3. Nars Orgasm Lip Gloss– I have been using this gloss instead of a lipstick since I used up my whole tube of MAC VIVA Glam VI, I wanted something lighter for Summer, and I had a mini tube from a point perk. I like the light coverage, and the formula isn’t sticky.
  4. Game of Thrones – It’s here, Winter is here, and some major shit is about to go down! If you haven’t watched this show yet you should probably binge watch it and prepare to be blown away it has everything you need in a show: dragons, death, sociopaths, war, magic, and ice zombies among other things. The show is now in it’s seventh season and I can see some big things happening soon!
  5. Harney & Sons tea – My Head Teller (God bless her) loves this brand of tea, and tries almost all of them, the Japanese Sencha and Chinese Flower were two that weren’t her cup of tea #punsointended, so she gave me the tins. They are a bit expensive, but through amazon you can get big bags of loose tea! And sometimes its better to have the loose tea.

This post was very, very late because my laptop died… With my whole life on it. J is trying to salvage what he can, but as it stands my blog back up, novel, a few screenplays, countless songs and pictures are gone. Not to mention all of the years I have been collecting images and funny gifs… So stay tuned for updates, they might be even more irregular for a little bit until I sort out my life. And, on that not it’s time to end!

All for now,

All I wanna do is get by by the beach…

This week’s save vs. splurge edition is all about the white swimsuit, something you covet, but never swim in, something you are terrified to spill your beverage of choice on, while soaking up the sun. If you guys couldn’t tell I so, so, so miss the beach! I haven’t been since the summer of ’06 when I went down to NJ to the Warped Tour (just in case you haven’t noticed I’m a highly functioning recovering EMO kid). And even then my mother and I ran out of the car, after dark and stuck our toes in the sand (we probably shouldn’t have done that, oops!) Anyway, I digress, here is a save vs. splurge that I was totally inspired by LDR’s Blue Jeans video.

||Suit||Hat||Sandal||Sunnies||Suit||Hat||Sandal||Sunnies||

So I am so in love with Ray Ban sunnies, I’ve had mine for like six years now, I prety much wear them everyday, and I’ll probably need a new pair soon, but I’ll keep on keeping on until they break! And can we discuss this pair of Ancient Greek Sandals? OMG I have been lusting after a pair for quite a while now, I love the Chanel esque vibe, and the wing detail is adorable! Floppy hats are key whether your poolside or soaking up some rays while the waves break against the shore.  And on that note it’s time to end!

All for now,

It’s hard to live when absolutely nothing’s clear…

It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here! LDR finally dropped her latest album July 21st, and it’s super awesome! Entitled “Lust For Life”, this 16 track gem is complete with cameos, recycled themes like “white sunshine”, pearls, curls, America, blue, paradise, and “war on my mind”. There’s bits about clothing, illicit drugs, some alcohol, and all of the common hallmarks in LDR’s discography.

I am loving “Tomorrow Never Came” which features Sean Ono Lennon, I’ve never heard him sing before and his voice is amazing, it’s exactly how I’d imagine John’s son sounding.

The songs with A$AP Rocky, I didn’t think I would enjoy and I actually do. I’m normally not the biggest rap fan, but “Summer Bummer” is pretty good, and “Groupie Love” is a cool track too!

“God Bless America – And All of the Beautiful Women In It” was a stand out track for me. That and “Love” seemed the most reminiscent of standard LDR. “Get Free” is probably the best way to end the record. I get the feeling that a conscious decision was made and there’s no looking back, as if to say I’ve evolved and there is only forward to go from here.

Track Listing:

  1. Love
  2. Lust For Life
  3. 13 Beaches
  4. Cherry
  5. White Mustang
  6. Summer Bummer
  7. Groupie Love
  8. In My Feelings
  9. Coachella – Woodstock In My Mind
  10. God Bless America – And All Of The Beautiful Women In It
  11. When The World Was At War An We Kept Dancing
  12. Beautiful People Beautiful Problems
  13. Tomorrow Never Came
  14. Heroin
  15. Change
  16. Get Free

Overall it’s a good cohesive record, with that being said I love the “Born To Die/Paradise” days. There are some stand outs for me, but it’s more than likely that I’m in a different place in my life and I’m not relating to every word she writes anymore. It’s not bad, and her voice as always is top notch. And who else would work with A$AP Rocky, Sean Ono Lennon, The Weeknd, and Stevie Nicks all on one record? I would say fans will like this record, there is just enough to keep us entertained, even if you don’t know her work, check it out you may be surprised! And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

The flags are waving for me…

For my July playlist we are going with a summer theme, and summer is in full effect. My favourite summer holiday is the Fourth. I love BBQ, beers, sparklers, and fireworks! Iced tea and lemon Italian ice are summer staples. My summer wardrobe comprises of mainly red, white, and blue, with a little nautical mixed in and this playlist will make you grab a burger, a sparkler and an ice cold beer.

  1. 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) – Bruce Springsteen
  2. Surf Colorado – Bowling For Soup
  3. California Girls – The Beach Boys
  4. Rockaway Beach – The Ramones
  5. Gramma (Blue Ribbon Sparkler Trailer Heaven) – Lizzy Grant
  6. Ocean Avenue – Yellowcard
  7. Boys of Summer – Don Henley
  8. Island in the Sun – Weezer
  9. Rockin’ Me – Steve Miller Band
  10. Cruel Summer – Bananarama
  11. Summer of ’69 – Bryan Adams
  12. Rock Lobster – The B52’s
  13. Catalina – The Descendents
  14. National Anthem – Lana Del Rey
  15. Summer Wind Was Always Our Song – The Ataris

This playlist like many before is just as eclectic as I am. I took a lot of time putting this one together, and I had a lot of fun doing it! So may of these songs are really good, and a little all over the place. I am so looking forward to Augusts playlist! And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

All around me are familiar faces, Worn out places, worn out faces…

I loved writing my first empties post so much that I decided to do another one.  I use a lot of products and I buy a lot too.  Last year I decided to use up a significant portion of my beauty stash.  I’m also hoping to only rebuy products that worked well for me.  I don’t want to spend a lot of money in the hopes that something might work, I’m way past that.  So over the past few months (so many months, this was supposed to be a quarterly feature) here are some of the products I’ve used up.  Some I love and others not so much.  Here are my thoughts, I hope you enjoy round two of empties.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple – My favourite gentle face wash.  It has a natural scent that is not over powering, over drying, or in anyway harsh.  I love this stuff and I like to keep a back up.

Philosophy Microdelivery – My favourite exfoliating face scrub.  It’s gentle exfoliation, lightly scented, and really works.  I also like to keep a back up of this around just in case.

Philosophy Miracle Worker  – I got a deluxe sample of this moisturizer and I generally liked it, I prefer HIAJ, over this.  I’m glad I tried it, and I love the brand, but this moisturizer was not for me.

Philosophy Hope in a Jar Eye – I got this a a point perk and I figured I would try it out.  I was using this with okay results, it’s your basic run of the mill eye cream, then I lost the top to the container, and it started to dry up, and it became balmy, I still used it all up.  I probably wouldn’t repurchase even though I am a big Philosophy fan to begin with.

Fresh Seaberry Restorative lotion – This lotion is of medium thickness, absorbs quickly and smells a little lemony.  I used this lotion for a while and even at the beginning of my pregnancy.  It is a bit expensive, but it is very worth it and lasted me a fairly long time.  I wish the price was better, because I really like this stuff.

Burt’s Bees Body Lotion – I got this lotion after I ran out of my Fresh body lotion.  I liked this because it was less expensive and there was no scent.  It is thick and absorbs well.  I decided not to repurchase once it was empty, and I got Cocoa Butter instead.

Mac Zoom Lash mascara – I got this as a sample expecting nothing.  I like how this mascara coats my lashes, separates, and defines them well.  But it melts and smears all over my eye area and that I am just not into.  I’m glad I didn’t spend any money on this mascara, because I am so moving on.

Nars Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base – This stuff is of miracles!  I love it so much, when I use it my eye shadow does not budge.  I’ve already repurchased and when I wear eye make up I don’t want to be with out it.

Benefit Benetint – I love this stuff, I have been using it for years.  It is a great multipurpose product, easily blendable as a blush, and buildable as a lippie.  It also smells divine.  I prefer the smaller deluxe sample size because the applicator brush is smaller and I feel I have more control when applying.

Fresh Seaberry Oil – This was my fifth bottle.  I can’t go on with out this HG oil.  I use it day and night, for my face moisturizer, on my elbows and knees too.  It is mid weight, absorbs quickly, and smells really nice.  I have been using it for almost two years now and I am so glad that I took the leap into face oils, because I am never going back.

Origins Clear Improvements Active Charcoal mask – I bought this in the hopes that it would replace my GlamGlow superMUD, but it in fact was not up to my standards.  It did not clear my pores as well, or keep my skin as tight.  I’m back to superMUD, even though its really expensive. (Not pictured because by “using it”, I really mean, I gave it to my Sister)

L’Occitane Immortelle Eye Balm – I was on the hunt for a new eye cream after my Fresh eye gels that I tried throughout last year.  I am so glad that I tried this one.  I really love it, it smells nice, has a great consistency, absorbs quickly, and lasts a long time.  I feel it’s reasonably priced, my crow’s feet are slowing, my dark circles are becoming a rarity, and my eye puffiness is less frequent.  I have a few deluxe samples to work my way through but I am really sold on this one.

Benefit Rollerlash – I got this as a deluxe sample, in the hopes of finding a less expensive alternative to Diorshow.  I’ve read a lot of reviews online about this mascara, and decided why not.  The consistency I feel is similar to Benefit They’re Real, but with that being said, this mascara doesn’t melt, flake, or give me raccoon eyes buy lunchtime, more like 3:30.  I feel the application is even, it coats my lashes well, and it’s reasonably priced.  I have a few more mascaras to work through, but right now, I generally like it.  I probably wouldn’t repurchase.

EOS lip balm – I finally finished (a lot of the way), the fruity one.  I wasn’t really into it.  It smelled nice, but I really love the sweet mint (which I am currently loving/using). The egg shaped container is really obnoxious, and not very portable.  Which is why I prefer the stick version.  The stick version broke about a week after I bought it.  I was super upset.  So I probably won’t buy either again after I use up all of my back up lip balm stash.

Clinique Perfectly Real Make Up – I have been using this foundation for years now, I have not found a reason to switch.  It is a lightweight, medium yet buildable coverage that last all day.  I prefer to use either my Beauty Blender or a foundation brush for my application.

Chanel No. 5 – I have been wearing the Eau De Parfum for years now.  I can not get enough of it.  It really is the best smelling perfume I have ever worn.  Yes, the price can be steep, but I don’t wear a lot of it, and the scent lasts all day.  I haven’t found another perfume that smells as great or better one me.  I have no reason to ever wear anything else.

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo – I have been using this dry shampoo for a few years now, and I love it.  It’s very reasonably priced and it works really well.  I recommend this dry shampoo to everyone.

Sephora Collection Express Cleansing Wipes – These are probably the best make up removing wipes I have ever used.  They are durable, gentile, have a light clean scent, and can take off a face full of make up with ease.  They also don’t leave any residue.  I am sold, I always try to keep a back up so I don’t run out.

EOS Shave Cream – I don’t normally use shave cream, but my Mother gave this to me for Christmas, so I decided that I should try it.  I really like it, it smells nice, “lathers” well, and I find it gave me good results.  It’s not that expensive so I may repurchase in the future.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil – I got this as part of my Sephora birthday gift last year.  I started to use Rikugien first, it is a rose shade.  And I really love it.  I don’t know if I would rebuy for two reasons: I have to sharpen this pencil, which I know is part of life, but it’s not great when I’m trying to get portability out of it.  And It doesn’t last as long after it’s applied like the lipsticks from the brand do, which I can eat, drink, and go for most of my day with out having to reapply.  With this lip pencil this is not the case.

Korres Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial – I got this mask as a deluxe sample, and thought since I’m trying to use up my beauty stash, why not use up my samples too!  I wasn’t expecting a whole lot, because I’ve never tried the brand before.  Let me just start with the scent, because it is strong.  It smells like roses which I really enjoy, but if you don’t enjoy that aroma, steer clear, because after about twenty minutes it was still strong.  The texture was like butter, so soft and creamy, and my skin just drunk it right up.  After leaving the mask on all night I awoke to radiant, supple, brighter and well hydrated skin, and that was just after one application.  I was pleasantly surprised and I think this may be an option I may pick up in the future.

Dove Antiperspirant Deodorant Original Clean – I have been using this deodorant for many years now,  and I really like it a lot.  It has a very light clean scent, it goes on smooth, and for a normal, work day, it holds up.  During the dog days of summer, or maybe some strenuous activities you may need to reapply.  Some times I mix it up with a fruity scent, but I always go back to the clean scent.  I also enjoy that I can snag a two pack, or multi-packs from places like Wal-Mart, Target, or Sam’s Club.

Drybar Texas Tea Volumizing Spray – I got this as part of the set when I got my Buttercup  blow dryer in 2014, it took me a long time to use this, mainly because this winter I chilled way out and I haven’t been styling my hair as often.  But now that it’s getting longer again I am doing more blow outs.  I probably wouldn’t repurchase this spray as it’s just okay, I feel there are better options that are less expensive, and also don’t smell like booze, much like the other Texas Tea products do.

Sephora Collection Instant Eye Makeup Remover – I got this last Autumn, after using up the Lancome eye makeup remover I got from a GWP.  I like it, I feel it’s a basic eye makeup remover.  I think I will try the waterproof version, just because sometimes some of my more stubborn makeup won’t come of when I use this stuff.

I hope everyone enjoyed this round of empties.  I decided to share them on a quarterly basis instead of monthly so that I actually had some time to accumulate some.  I’m looking forward to using up a lot of my make up stash this year.  I mentioned before that I would be repurchasing what has worked for me in the past, and products that I really liked from last year, and items I have yet to try this year that I have already purchased.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

Oh, say can you see my stars…

June was a pretty good month overall, J had his birthday, our little girl seven months! And Summer officially started, so today I am sharing some of my favourite things!

  1. Alex Pop! by Funko – J and I have a slight issue with Funko products, mainly the Pop!s, but I mean how can you not? They are just too stinking cute. I recently acquired Alex, for those not in the know he is the main character of the book and film A Clockwork Orange. Basically he is a functioning sociopath hopped up on Miloko, seeking Ultra-Violence (yes, that’s where LDR got her album title from), and singing show tunes in the rain. This Pop! is probably my favourite, he sits on my desk at work and only 2 or 3 people have gotten the reference. He is temporarily out of stock at Entertainment Earth where I primarily get these sort f things, but I’ve seen lots at Toys R Us and Barnes and Noble.
  2. Beauty and the Beast (2017) – This has to be my favourite film of 2017, and I think I can come out and say it since the year is half over. There hasn’t been a movie in recent memory that I have been more excited to see and enjoyed so much. You can check my review of the film (here).
  3. Boscia Luminizing Black Mask – I got this face mask from my last Sephora order and I waited to use it, I wanted to finish my GlamGLOW SuperMUD first, that mask started to not work so well for me. So I was looking for something different and I like the Boscia brand. This mask is super cool because after it dries you peel it off!
  4. Sundress weather – Now that it’s officially summer my sundresses have been in heavy rotation. I’m also still on my maxi dress kick! A dress is so easy for S/S and since becoming a mom I need easy!
  5. J. Crew Martie pant – Recently MIL took me shopping as a gift for my first official Mother’s Day and because she forgot my birthday (which I totally forgave her). I really needed to get some new clothes for work, because a lot of my pants and more fitted clothes still do not fit appropriately. I picked up two pairs of this style back in May and I have been living in them! I already had a pair from my pre-pregnancy days and I’m glad I picked up cloud grey and black. Right now select colours are on sale.

It’s hard to believe that June is over… Where the hell is this year going? Our Little Girl will be 8 months next week, Summer is in full effect, work is crazy and won’t stop anytime soon. Here’s to July and some sparklers and streamers! And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

–Kiki–

Title from: Oh Say Can You See by LDR

I’m not the kind-a girl who gives up just like that…

This month’s playlist is all about songs from the 1980s, which as most 90s kids know was an interesting time for most pop culture, but I managed to find a few diamonds in the proverbial rough.

  1. Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go – Soft Cell (If it’s not this version I’m outta here!)
  2. I Ran – A Flock of Seagulls
  3. Eye of the Tiger – Survivor
  4. Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Queen
  5. The Tide is High – Blondie
  6. Centerfold – J. Giles Band
  7. Everybody Wants to Rule the World – Tears For Fears
  8. Got My Mind Set on You – George Harrison
  9. Take on Me – A-Ha
  10. Uptown Girl – Billy Joel
  11. Kayleigh – Marillion

In keeping with my general tastes, it’s mostly rock esque/new wave/prog/and a little pop. A lot of these gems are radio mainstays, so crank up the tunes, grab a Tab and watch some Care Bears, then rock out! And on that note, it’s time to end.

All for now,

–Kiki–
