You say you wanna try and get away, and that’s just so obvious…

This month’s playlist is a little indulgent considering more than a few of these songs were mentioned before on previous playlists! But this is my blog and my playlist and if I want to recycle a few songs who can stop me? This one starts off like Stairway to Heaven, calm cool and mostly collected, a hauntingly beautiful voice building, calculated in the ascend to harder, faster, and stronger vocal and music, only to end up rocking the fuck out! There’s some 90s nostalgia, some early 00s EMO, a bitchin’ classic rock gem, and of freaking course some LDR!

  1. Sex and Candy – Marcy Playground
  2. Hallelujah – Jeff Buckley
  3. Ape Dos Mil – Glassjaw
  4. Cherry Waves – The Deftones
  5. Breakfast in America – Supertramp
  6. Little Razor Blade – The Pink Spiders
  7. Beating Heart Baby- Head Automatica
  8. Put me in a Movie – LDR
  9. Godzilla – Kesha
  10. Head First for Halos – My Chemical Romance
  11. Drunk Girl – Something Corporate
  12. New York City Speed – Kill Hannah
  13. Summer of Sam – LDR
  14. Jude Law and a Semester Abroad- Brand New
  15. Your Boyfriend Sucks – The Ataris

This is probably one of the better mixes I’ve created in a long time, in high school I would name my mixes and since then my favourite was one I called Pop Rocks and Coke, mainly for the Green Day song, and this one, I think we are going with the number one, 90s gem Sex and Candy… All of these songs are super awesome, it’s just a really cool mix. And I am love, love, loving Godzilla these days, it’s just a super cool song, about falling in love with Godzilla, like that’s not the coolest thing that’s happened this year? I’ve been listening to a lot of Glassjaw again, I don’t really know why but it’s like it’s my job. Worship and Tribute is such a great record, it’s a shame they only released one other record. Anyway, give this one a go, it’s super rad! And on that note, it’s time to end!

I can’t begin to let you know just what I’m feeling…

It’s official, in a few short days I will have entered the last year of my twenties… 29, it seems like one of those “nothing good happens” ages, but I won’t know until I get there. So I decided to come up with a little wish list, since becoming a mother late last year I only buy things for myself that I need so any type of splurge is a treat!

  1. Virgo tee – J. Crew did a line of zodiac tees and I am lusting after the Virgo one (obviously, bonus points if you read that in Snape’s voice, #majordork), I’m it say’s exactivist, which for those of you who know a thing or two about the zodiac, it’s so fitting.
  2. Karl Lagerfeld x Vans – The line is dropping soon, and I am so excited, I’ve loved Lagerfeld’s work for a long time, and I grew up on the beach, Vans were a staple of shore life.
  3. Bad Bitch pallet – MAC announced a few pallets recently and the coolest one is the Bad Bitch, the colours are awesome, the name is awesome, and who wouldn’t want that?

I kept it short this year, I don’t really need a lot these are just some things that it would be nice to have. I’ll probably pick up the Virgo tee once it goes on sale, and I may be able to squeeze some extra money out of the budget to pick up a ¬†bithcin’ new pair of Vans! And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

Yeah my baby’s smooth like sandpaper, warm just like the winter…

It’s pretty wild that August is over, I don’t know where the summer went, but it just about gone! September is usually a pretty busy month for me. My Father’s birthday, my birthday, a couple of friend’s have birthdays, a wedding, and our little girl will be 10 months! I’m tired already just thinking about it… Anyway, even though August flew, I did manage to enjoy a couple of things!

  1. Yoga – I’ve been an on and off quasi yogi for several years and I gotta say, I didn’t always love it, but the older and hopefully wiser I get the more I appreciate it’s benefits. I have a dedicated post about yoga in the works, I just need time to photograph some poses, which will happen one day, hopefully one day soon, because I’d really like to share some of my favourite poses!
  2. 30 Rock – J and I started watching this show recently and it’s freaking fantastic! It’s smart, and funny, and has a lot of nerdy pop culture references, Tina Fey is always hilarious and Alec Baldwin is perfect as Jack. It’s definitely worth a watch!
  3. Khiel’s now at Sephora – THIS. IS. HUGE. I am in love with a few of their products and I am so happy that I can now get them from Sephora, since I buy most of my skincare and beauty products from there. Hello, November, I have a large order to place!
  4. Lush maxi – I got this maxi from the Nordies sale back in July and it was on back order and it just arrived and I love it! It’s really comfy and easy for the cool mornings and evenings we are experiencing in the Hudson Valley.

So now that September is here I am totally looking forward to Autumn, I am so ready to break out my sweaters and wool trousers and my Frye boots. And I’ll be celebrating the last year of my twenties in a few days. But more on that later! And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

Caught up in my dreams and forgetting…

This post is going up way later than I wanted, but it’s still August right? I went all LDR this time, and this one was pretty easy, her music embodies Summer, class, and what America used to be… When things were simpler, and maybe more romantic, and maybe better, but how could we know, we weren’t there. Any way, put on some mascara, a party dress, high heels, and throw your hair up real big beauty queen style, pour your self a drink and have a cigarette, because your going to need it!

  1. Serial Killer
  2. Lolita
  3. Kind Outta Luck
  4. Brooklyn Baby
  5. Go Go Dancer
  6. High By the Beach
  7. Queen of Disaster
  8. Freak
  9. Cola
  10. Gramma
  11. Blue Jeans
  12. Back to the Basics
  13. Body Electric
  14. Burning Desire
  15.  Art Deco
  16. Love
  17. Tomorrow Never Came
  18. Get Free
  19. You Can Be the Boss
  20. God Bless America and All of the Beautiful Women in it

It’s no surprise that I’m finally doing an all LDR playlist. I’m mean come on like 90% of my post titles come from her music. The fact that it took me this long is a bit shocking. Some new some old some leaked but all awesome. I started with Serial Killer, which is one of my all time favorite songs. It’s hauntingly beautiful and super fucked up. My absolute faves are from Born to Die and Paradise. Listening to Ultraviolence now I appreciate it a lot more than when I first heard it, and the same with Honeymoon. At this point Lust For Life is in heavy rotation. The consumability is low right now as I mentioned in my review of the album I like it, I don’t love it. The standouts are great, the cameos are good, it’s a good record, it just doesn’t captivate my soul like Born To Die did. Born To Die came into my life at a time where I was in a really rough place. Both personally and professionally. And when I listened to the record I thought to myself she just gets it. She’s felt the exact same way that I do and she persevered. But as I evolve and grow, her new music has done the same, just not in sync. I hope you all enjoy this one, it was really fun putting this list together. And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

Hey, you with the pretty face, welcome to the human race…

J and I recently (finally!) saw Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I was really excited to see the latest installment of the franchise, since I love, love, loved the first one! So for anyone who’s been living under a rock for the past few years, Chris Pratt portrays Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, an earthling traveling through space with rag tag group of anti heroes, who have dubbed themselves “The Guardians of the Galaxy”. But we all know them right? Good! So moving on…

The story: lack luster, for Peter finally finding his father after not knowing him his whole life, it’s pretty lame. Kurt Russell, Ego, a Celestial, finally connects with Peter only to use him to destroy the universe, and rebuild it in his image? More like egomaniac #Godcomplex #daddyissues. Then we have the Nebula-Gamora arc: will Nebula kill Gamora only then to exact her revenge on Thanos? Will Gamora kill Nebula and move on with her life? No! Nebula finally forgives Gamora only to then go on a fools errand to find Thanos and try to kill him, again #daddyissues. Of course Yondu makes an appearance, his crew mutinies against him and chaos insues. Then he finally shows some compassion and helps the Guradians destroy Ego, #I’mMaryPoppinsY’all. Then we come to my favourite and potentially only redeeming part of the film: Baby Groot, so we all know Groot sacrificed him self at the end of the first film, and was a sprout in a pot, now Groot is out of the pot and causing trouble as only a toddler can. He was always the most bad ass character IMO and he gets better scene by scene.

The music: The first film’s soundtrack was one of the best in recent memory, jam packed with great classic rock hits that just kept coming. This time around some of the songs may be a higher caliber like “My Sweet Lord” (I mean a freaking Beatle wrote it for Christ’s sake), but overall it’s just okay…

The credit scenes are good, but there are so damn many of them, they really need to simmer down, although the last one, where we see Groot as a teenager is quite funny.

Overall it was both a great and not great film, it looked great, the effect and “fight” sequences were awesome. The music, meh, it left a lot to be desired. And Baby Groot stole the show. Give it a watch, maybe two, but don’t expect the super fantastic film that the fist one was. And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,
