June we are exploring some of my favourite tunes of the 1970s. A lot of the music I heard growing up was what my parents listened to. They listened to a lot of rock, my dad listened to some heavier stuff, while my mom listened to Bruce Sprinsteen and Southside Johnny. I fall somewhere in the middle, with a major concentration in punk rock. Here are just some of my favourite tunes from the 1970s!
1. Fire – Jimi Hendrix
2. White Rabbit – Jefferson Airplane
3. Train, Train – Blackfoot
4. Rosalita – Bruce Springsteen
5. Old Man – Neil Young
6. Heart of Glass – Blondie
7. Dreams – Fleetwood Mac
8. Maggie May – Rod Stewart
9. Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd
10. Black Betty – Ram Jam
11. Heroes – David Bowie
12. Spanish Bombs – The Clash
13. Kings and Queens – Aerosmith
14. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend – The Ramones
15. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
I really enjoyed putting this playlist together, and so many of these songs have great memories attached. I think I knew every line to Bohemian Rhapsody before I started kindergarten. I got a reissue of London Calling when I was in high school on vinyl, and the first time I listened to the album in it’s entirety I felt right at home. More recently I have really gotten into Fleetwood Mac, Dreams is definitely one of my favourite songs. Happy listening. And on that note, it’s time to end!
All from now,
