Don’t forget your Christmas cheer…

This weekend J and I did a lot of our Christmas shopping.  We have gifts for the whole family on the way.  I also ordered a few things for my new office.  I can’t wait until everything arrives and I can start wrapping!  This week I return to the Orthodontist on Tuesday for my monthly appointment.  I’m hoping for good news.  We’ll see what happens.  I have no expectations at this point in my treatment.

December starts this week and so do new possibilities.  I officially have a cash box at work and I can do transactions on my own, which is very exciting!  This weekend we are going to get our Christmas tree, stay tuned for more on that.  We make a day out of it and will no doubt have a fun filled adventure.  I am also looking forward to Christmas!  I’m not usually one to get in the holiday spirit, but I’m really feeling it this year.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

Its the only thing I want this year…

Well it’s November and that means we are officially in the Holiday Season!  Although I am not the biggest fan of over commericalized bliss, I do enjoy the holiday season, I prefer to be with my family and enjoy good food, drink, and a toasty fire.  This year my wishlist is a bit lean.  I have been investing in a lot of my effort into building my perfect forever wardrobe and pinning down my beauty and skincare routines.  In addition to my top picks, I’m also in the market for a new laptop.  I need a laptop for portability, my current one can do most things just fine, but it overheats and that is just not good.  J has already mentioned that one may be waiting under the tree for me!   And now with out further ado, here is my Christmas 2015 wishlist!

1. Burberry wool scarf – In classic colours please!  Of course to match my quilted jacket and trench coat!

2. Leather tech gloves – If there is one thing I hate about my current pair of leather gloves, it’s that I need to take them off to access my iPhone, which is incredibly annoying.  I’d prefer black to match my coat and other outer wear accessories.

3. Diamond stud earrings – I have been wanting a pair forever, and they should be from Tiffany’s, being that I am a big Tiffany’s gal.  Round would be my preferred shape, and not too big.

4. Guerlain Meteorites – Regular Clair 02 – I have been hearing some great things about these often referred to “Magic Balls”.  I’m a big fan of setting powders and I’m itching to try this one.

5. Honeymoon by Lana Del Rey – On vinyl please!  I love this record and I would love to listen to it on vinyl, I think the depth of each track would offer a unique listening experience.

6. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby – High Fidelity is one of my favourite films, and I would love to read the book, I probably should have read the book long ago, but better late than never.

7. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams – Another one of my favourite films, and there are so many great lines.  I would like to read all of the books.

8. Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell – One of my favourite books and films.  I read this book a long time ago and I never got my own copy.

Like I said I kept it simple this year.  I would rather spend some quality time with my friends and family over the holiday season than get a bunch of stuff.  But regardless of what is important I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!  And on that note, it’s time to end!

I’m waking up and bakin’, watching the parade…

It has been a crazy long time since I last shared a recipe!  This stops now, I love cooking, although I don’t always have the motivation to do it!  I’m also really into baking pies and cookies.  And this time of year is my favourite to bake.  It’s cooler, the leaves are mostly covering the ground, and baking delicious treats is a great way to spend an afternoon.  I also enjoy cooking and baking for my family, here is one of my favourite recipes for the holiday season.  This pecan pie is a staple in my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  And although I’ve tweaked it over the years it’s still really great and it usually turns out well.

Pecan Pie (taken from the Karo Syrup bottle and

  • 1 cup Karo® Light OR Dark Corn Syrup (I use light)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar (I use half sugar, half brown sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract (I use McCormick, it works just fine)
  • 1-1/2 cups (6 ounces) pecans
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked OR frozen** deep-dish pie crust

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

Mix corn syrup (I use light Karo syrup), eggs, sugar, butter and vanilla using a spoon. Stir in pecans. Pour filling into pie crust.  **I use half sugar and half brown sugar ** I bring to a boil : corn syrup, sugar, butter, and vanilla.  I then let mixture cool, then I fold in the eggs.

Bake on center rack of oven for 60 to 70 minutes (see tips for done-ness, below). Cool for 2 hours on wire rack before serving.

I prefer to make my own pie crust, I am still trying to find my perfect recipe.

RECIPE TIPS: Pie is done when center reaches 200°F. Tap center surface of pie lightly – it should spring back when done. For easy clean up, spray pie pan with cooking spray before placing pie crust in pan. If pie crust is over-browning, cover edges with foil.

I hope that everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving.  As always I’m also on mashed potato and pumpkin pie duty.  I’m sure I’ll be preparing other portions of our meal as well.  Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday.  I am so looking forward to spending a very nice day with my family and enjoying a lot of yummy food!  And on that note, it’s time to end!

Polished is what I’ve been for years…

Now that we are in the middle of Autumn, I thought it might be high time to share something about A/W that you just can’t get away with most of the time in S/S… Leather.  And if there is any material I love more than wool and silk, it’s leather.  Whether it’s a jacket, a skirt or some well made shoes.  And this time of year it looks amazing with just about anything.  Here are some of my top leather picks this season.

I hope you all enjoy these bad ass leather picks, this time of year is really the best time to sport them… I am so lusting after the Saint Laurent hand bag, it may be a splurge in my future… And on that note, it’s time to end!

Buy me my peach lip gloss…

There was a thread about this recently on BT, what was the first product(s) you ever bought.  Now, I am taking this to mean of the high end variety.  I was in my late teens/early twenties when I was able to start buying my make up and skincare from Sephora and department stores.  I remember the first items I bought.

Nars Orgasm blush – I have not stopped using this blush since I bought it.  It’s perfect for my complexion and it is beautiful.  It has the right amount of shimmer, it’s super pigmented and I am still very much in love with this stuff!

Nars palette – I bought this in 2008 or 2009, it was my favourite thing it had four eye shadows Nightclubbing and Ondine were the best, four lippies Dolce Vita and Gipsy are awesome.  Included in the pallet were two multiples.  This bad boy was my first big splurge as far as high end beauty goes.  I went through an eye shadow and a couple lippies pretty quickly.  I had to chuck this recently, it was way past it’s prime.  And because of that it’s not pictured.  I have tried to find anything about the palette and I can’t find it anywhere.

Benefit Benetint – This product is amazeballs.  Not only does it smell amazing, but as a blush it is easy to use, blendable and very long lasting.  As a lip stain it is perfect, I use it all the time.  I even play around with other lip sticks to create unique colours.  I will say that as a stain it gets pretty dry, so either layer a lip balm or lip stick, for a more moisturized result.

I was not as savvy in my early buying years.  That is why I invested the time and energy into learning about brands, products, and I read a ton of reviews.  Sometimes I write reviews as well.  I feel as though you can’t make an informed decision without doing a ton of research.  Over time and a lot of big Sephora orders I think I am finally streamlining my skincare and beauty routines.  And on that note, it’s time to end!
