For goodness sake I think I’m on the edge of something new…

May was a big month, aside from being busy at work, my staycation, new camera and third wedding anniversary.  I accomplished a lot, from planning more/better posts, learning how to take better photos and edit them.  As I look forward to June and all it has in store, it’s time for my favourite things.

1. It’s been about a month since I cut my lob into a full blown bob, with bangs.  I love the bangs, I’m on the fence about my cut still.  The texture of my hair has changed, it’s dry, and brittle, so I embrace that by using either sea salt spray or curl enhancing gel.  Blow drying my hair straight, looks alright, but I’m still having trouble with getting the layers to lay flat, using my flat iron doesn’t really help.  It just makes my hair look like a busy frizzy mess (Hermione Granger anyone?).  I’ve even tried using different types of brushes to blow dry my hair, and I’ve had very little luck.  Back to the drawing board on that.  As my hair grows out a bit, I think that it will start to get a bit easier to style.

2. Beauty Blender – I have been using my BB make up sponge for about a month now, and I’ve got to say, they are genius.  These little pink Godsends lend themselves so well to applying just about any make up look.  I have noticed that the application of my foundation is not only much easier but looks smoother and more covered, but also really light at the same time.  I wet my BB and squeeze all of the water out prior to applying my foundation, which I dot on with the rounded bottom of the sponge, then I blend all over my face.  I typically wash my BB after two uses with the liquid BB soap I got in the set from my last Sephora order.  I find that the liquid soap cleans my BB sponge very well and it is easy to rinse off.

3. Philosophy Purity Cleanser/Microdelivery – I started using this cleanser about two weeks ago and I gotta say, I’m hooked!  I love how it smells, it is not harsh, and it’s really refreshing.  It is cheaper per ounce than my favourite Fresh Soy cleanser and I feel it works about the same.  I use this cleanser with my Clarisonic and it has been doing wonders for my skin, I am leaning towards this for a repurchase.  I also more recently started using Microdelivery from the mini set I got from my last Sephora order, and I have to say, it is also doing wonders for my skin (I used BB cream, pressed powder and a little concealer for work last week, I NEVER do that!).  I use it when I shower after my pores have had a chance to open up, and I use it according to the instructions. My skin has never looked better, red, inflamed under the skin blemishes, have calmed down almost instantly.  Black heads are few and not a deep in my pores, white heads are subsiding.  My pores look smaller and cleaner.  I have also noticed that if a new blemish rears it’s ugly head (#punintended) it is smaller and heals much quicker.  I will definitely repurchase this amazing exfoliator.

4. Shisiedo BB Cream – This is my first go at using a BB cream and I am in love! The coverage is light, hydrating and when applied correctly (with the help of concealer, and pressed powder) flawless!  I am not a flawless skin kind of gal, as you all know I am well into my twenties battling adult acne (still!).  Even though I am in love with Shisiedo right now and way loving this product I would like to find a cheaper alternative mainly due to price.  I will be on the hunt for my perfect BB cream, so stay tuned.

And on that note, it’s time to end!

You know it could be so much better than it’s been ooooh, here we go around again…

Going back to work after having eleven lovely days off, was a challenge.  I really enjoyed having such a large chunk of time off but getting back to the grind is always hard.  But I made it through, although I have to admit I did not want to leave my bed and be a person this morning.  J and I may have over did it a bit last night and staying up til around 2 a.m. was also a poor choice.  I always have tomorrow to redeem myself.  Since I wasn’t feeling it, my ensemble was simple, a Peter Pan collar tee, J. Crew Factory Frankie chinos in sage and my go to navy Sperry Topsiders.  It is nice but very reflective of how I was feeling.  All I wanted to do was come home, shower, eat dinner and relax.  I must save I more than accomplished that.  Sometimes you just need to lay on the couch and not do anything but stare blankly at a computer screen.  The end of the month is always a bit hectic at work, so I came back at a great time.  I’m looking forward to getting some of my tasks finished for a clean slate next month.   I’ll probably put a lot more effort into my ensemble tomorrow and even style my hair.  I may even debut one of my white pieces for the season. The first week of June has a lot in store.  I have some plans with my mom, more on them soon.  And on that note, it’s time to end!

All for now,

When I’m home everything seems to be right…

Today is the last day of my #staycation.  I woke up earlier than usual, did my laundry for the week, paid bills (Yay! Being an adult is so fun! #itsatrap), I also showered, blew my hair out and reshaped my eyebrows.  I worked on some post ideas for the upcoming months, planed ensembles. Having a full day even though I’m home can get a little tiring, but I always feel so accomplished when I get a lot done.

My time off was a much needed break, I had a lot of days were I hung around the house and did house work and worked on my novel or posts.  J and I also had a lot of fun outings, we discovered new restaurants, spent time with friends and family, and binge watched a lot of Castle.  We already made it to season six, which I am super excited about.  We’ll more than likely be caught up through season seven in the next few weeks, we may need to find a new show to watch by then.  I’m looking forward to next week, not only will we be in June, and there are some great things happening in June!  My mother and I have some plans for the weekend, and I think we may have a BBQ as well!  Although I miss work and I’m excited to get back to the daily grind, I also wish my time off didn’t have to end.  And on that note, it’s time to end.

Yes you’ll have to have them all pulled out, after the Savoy truffle…

So I had another orthodontist appointment this morning… I was prepared for being in the chair a while and not so great news.  And it turns out I was way wrong!  I got my bands changed on the bottom to red from hot pink, I was feeling patriotic and the wire in the back was tucked a bit, J tried to when I had my dental emergency in the beginning of April, but the wire is really thin and springy, which made it a bit challenge.  My prognosis is good, and according to my orthodontist I am in the home stretch.  I’m looking forward to getting these braces off soon!  I hope by mid Summer, but we’ll just have to wait and see!  I spent the morning with my mom, we hit up Monkey Joe’s in Kingston for some coffee and a scone.  I had a red eye, my go to coffee drink and my mom tried an iced vanilla coffee thing.  She really liked her’s; and we shared a blueberry scone.  Before we headed back to my parent’s house for crafting we stopped at Joe Beez for some sandwiches.  We shared the Killer Beez wrap (chicken salad, lettuce, tomato, and bacon) it was really good!  They have so many sandwiches and wraps and so many of them sound really good, I don’t think I would ever be able to them all!  And on that note it’s time to end!

Be young, be dope, be proud, like an American…

Today being Memorial Day, a day of remembrance, and honor.  And coming from a family full of military veterans it is definitely a somber one.  But for many it is also the unofficial start to Summer.  Which is a much happier reason, and is more cause for celebration.  Full of BBQs, beach days, parades and breaking out my white pieces.  I kept it patriotic today and wore my favourite red Ferrari polo, super old white midi skirt, and my navy Sperry Top-siders.  J and I spent the day together, first we had slept in and he made breakfast, which by the time we were motivated was more like lunch.  We had scrambled cheesy egg sandwiches with ham and ketchup.  J makes a mean breakfast. After we finished and got ourselves moving we had quite a busy day.  First we stopped at Boice’s Dairy in Kingston for milk shakes, we are both on a strawberry kick lately.  We like Boice’s best, not only are they really good but their price point is reasonable.  After our pit stop we had a brief visit with my sister, who was bummed that no one made any plans for today.  My sister likes any excuse to bake dessert, or make fried chicken, so don’t take that away from her.  After or visit with my sister we stopped over at a friend’s house for a few drinks and BBQ.  We enjoyed all the usual fare, burgers, hot dogs, ribs, the amazing macaroni salad our friend’s dad makes!  We also enjoyed a few drinks.    Now that May is winding down and Summer is ever close it seems like this year has already flown by.  And on that note it’s time to end!

The rest of the world was black and white…

My camera has a really easy to use panorama feature!
Today J and I had a nice lunch at The Hoffman House, and decided since it was such a nice day that we should go to Poet’s Walk, over in Dutchess County.  I first visited this scenic park during my senior year of high school, my creative writing class went for the day.  After my visit it became a favourite spot to visit with J.  We would walk the trails, picnic and take a lot of pictures.  Today was not only a sunny day, the weather was perfect and there was a nice breeze.  The trails were a bit steeper and more rugged then I remember, but we did have a very hard winter and I’m sure that didn’t help.  We had a really nice day and it felt good to get outside and get some exercise.  I’m sharing some of our shots today, which are courtesy of J.
Today I wore my new Doctor Who sundress (you can’t really see the detail in these shots, but it’s white with black outlines of Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels and the TARDIS) (#Whovian) with my favourite hot pink J. Crew 3/4 sleeve sweater.  I also wore my Kate Spade New York Kick Keds, in navy with pink, red, white and stripe polka dots.  I let my hair dry naturally with some curl enhancing spray gel (I use Garnier Fructis), and I think the combination of the two lead to some awesome results.  My waves and baby  curls were more defined and the frizz was kept to a minimum, I’m still having some texture problems, but I’m getting there.  Now that my hair is growing a bit, I can start to style it how I typically like to (curls, anyone?).  And on that note it’s time to end.

We are, we are dreaming… of Paris…

Tommy Hilfiger d’Orsay flats

Like most American women I am completely obsessed with “French Girl” style.  No effort make up, tousled chic hair, stripes, croissants, red wine, Coco Chanel…  The list goes on and on.  What is the fascination?  Why am I and we obsessed?  They look “lived in” in the best way.  They seemingly eat what they want, smoke, drink and some how still manage to look ageless.  How is that even possible?  Most American women either can’t or don’t pull that off well.  I don’t think I am one of them, I am already getting fine lines, crows feet, and laugh lines (yikes!).

J. Crew Stripe dress

I try to tousle my hair– and try to make it look effortless, when in reality it took way too long to style.  I eat…  I love food, I drink ( I do love me some Champagne!), I think my one saving grace is that I did finally quit smoking for good, it’s something that is a big challenge, but totally worth it!  My wardrobe is lived in, my Forever Wardrobe is growing in the best way, and my disposable one is shrinking.  I’m super obsessed with stripes, so much so that if I dare to buy another article of striped clothing I had better get rid of three pieces or J will throw a conniption!  From tops, to pants– even shoes, if it has stripes on it there is a very good chance I want it now and may no be able to continue on with out it.  As far as I am concerned the more stripes the better!  The classic black and white are my usual go to, but I have been known to mix it up with colour, or orientation of stripe. Some of my current stripe loves are pictured throughout.   (Lilly x Target tote, J. Crew navy striped dress, Black and White striped l/s sweater).  Currently lusting after: Comme De Garcons Play tee— super expensive and never on sale, Breton stripe tee.  Other French loves: Chanel Classic Flap (here) (here) (here), this bag needs no introductions, the best handbag since sliced bread and something I have been lusting after pretty much since birth (I mean, not really, but you get the point).  And the lust grows everyday.  I know I could easily find a nice quality bag that is in the style of but goddammit I want that interlocking C logo front and center!

I think “French Girl” style is just so romantic, I feel the same way about France in general.  And one usually looks glowing when in love.  Whether it with life, food, or another it’s always good to be in love.  I recently discovered this blog: The Cherry Blossom Girl, and I must say I am super obsessed.  Alix, is this beautiful exquisitely French woman in all of the best ways, she always looks put together, lady like and effortless.  Her clothing is to die for, her makeup is flawless (the cat eye game is strong!), her hair is seemingly effortless (her bangs are the best).  She posts in French and English, so it makes it really easy for us gals on this side of the pond.  My favourite posts are from when she visited California, she visited some really great places, the Hollywood sign, the Walk of Fame, Palm Springs and of course Disneyland.  I love how she mixes and matches brands like Asos, Topshop, and Wildfox, with Miu Miu, Valentino, Mischino, and her Charlotte Olympia shoe collection is amazing!  Check her out, you’ll be glad you did!  And on that note it’s time to end!
